Ecole Yenzi currently has 120 children on roll in two language streams. The International stream has approximately 70 children from the Pre-Nursery (aged 3 yrs) to P8 class (aged 12 yrs), whilst the French Language Stream has 50 children from aged 3 to 11 years. There are currently 11 class groups as well as provision for Dutch language and culture. English and French are taught to each year group by the teachers in the parallel stream. There are over twenty different nationalities represented in the school. Children in the International Stream are predominately expatriates who stay with us for 3-4 years. Children in the French Language Stream are predominately Gabonese children. The two streams work collaboratively in many ways including joint learning sessions and whole school events.

In June 2012 the School was accredited by the International Primary Curriculum at Mastering level – one of very few schools worldwide to have achieved this.

The School follows an English language based curriculum for Mathematics and English. For all other subjects we use the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). For more information please visit: www.greatlearning.com/ipc

The school offers an engaging extra-curricular programme for the children throughout the year and includes such things as a musical production, sports day, Inter-house events, school trips, seasonal celebrations and a variety of after school clubs. The programme is supported by teachers, school families and other members of the Yenzi community. The school day runs from 07.30 to 13.30 Monday to Friday. Classrooms are well equipped and there are specialist rooms for ICT, music & art, a library, a gymnasium and sports field. The school makes use of the Yenzi camp pool for weekly swimming lessons.

Location

The school is located in Yenzi Camp which is in Gamba, a remote area an hour’s plane journey south from the capital Libreville. The climate is hot and humid and the year is divided into wet and dry seasons. The area is remote and whilst this means there are no cinemas and shopping malls, it does mean an abundance of wildlife, beautiful forest, and amazing beaches. The camp has unique visitors, especially during the months from late September to December during ‘mango’ season.

Facilities on the camp are good with a clinic, a bakery, sports facilities and a Club with a restaurant and bar area. The nearby villages contain simply stocked stalls and shops and a number of basic, but atmospheric restaurants serving good local food. The village is a ten minute car journey from the camp.
