Job overview

We're exceptionally forward-thinking. Now we need someone exceptional to take us forward.

At Westfield Academy, 'Aspire, Thrive, Achieve' isn't just a motto: it's something that happens every day. For the last three years, 97% of our year 11 students have achieved at least five GCSEs at grade C or above, and have enjoyed studying everything from Latin and triple Science to Beauty and Horticulture. What's more, learning doesn't stop when lessons end, with an exciting range of after-school clubs and classes. So perhaps it's not so surprising that this year one of our students gained a place at the University of Oxford.

Now we need a forward-thinking Principal who can give our students and staff everything they need to succeed in a fast-changing world. Ofsted has rated our teaching as consistently good with excellent aspects of teaching, but we will look to you to take things to the next level. Attendance is improving rapidly, indicating how much our students enjoy their schoolwork, and you will help us make them feel even more engaged and empowered through your visionary decision-making.

Above all, we will look to you to champion personalised learning and equality of opportunity, whilst building synergistic partnerships with junior schools, higher education institutions, the LEA and employers. You will enjoy real autonomy to shape the curriculum, teaching practice, assessment methods and behaviour management strategies, so we need an outstanding professional. Already a high-achieving Head in a secondary setting, you will be able to demonstrate an impressive record of driving long-term improvements. Financial and resource management should be second nature to you, and you will be well versed in enrichment programmes, capable of challenging student and staff expectations, and ready to think outside the box to release everyone's potential.

Ofsted report

“The school has improved in many areas since the predecessor school was last inspected. The quality of teaching has improved and the curriculum in Key Stages 4 and 5 is better suited to the needs of pupils. Subject leaders have a clearer understanding of the quality of teaching in their areas because they spend time monitoring pupils’ progress. Pupils make good progress. They join the school in Year 7 with levels of attainment that are consistently below the national average. When they reach the end of Year 11, their standards are in line with the national average in a wide range of subjects, including English and mathematics.”
