The Black Country UTC, which opened in September 2011, was one of the first of its kind across the country. The Black Country UTC is an exciting new type of school offering year 10 and year 12 sixth form students the opportunity to focus on science and engineering subjects in a specialist environment. The UTC's aim is to create a new generation of young people with the technical skills to enable them to become the engineers, scientists and designers of the future.

The sponsors of the Black Country UTC are currently looking for an inspirational and innovative Principal who will embrace the vision of the UTC and help our young people to be successful, make a positive contribution to society, have entrepreneurial skills and meet the demands of employers in the West Midlands.

Following the exciting announcement of the plans for the capital development of Black Country UTC in a town centre location within easy reach of public transport, the Principal will lead the transition into the new build and location for September 2015.

You will be highly motivated and ambitious with the vision and experience to play a pivotal leadership role in this unique educational offer. You will continue to help create a dynamic learning community through an industry-led curriculum for this unique specialist university technical college. You will be working with a wide range of employer and sponsor partners to shape, lead and manage a highly innovative curriculum.

Working with the sponsors and governors, the successful candidate will operate at the cutting edge of education in this country, contributing not only to the educational achievement and aspiration of the students, but also to economic regeneration in the Black Country region and country.

A proven track record of education leadership will be essential as will a passion for enabling young people to learn.

We are looking for an inspirational and successful leader who can:

  • Provide strong, principled and effective leadership, forging a clear sense of purpose and inspiring students, staff, parents, sponsors and stakeholders;
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with sponsors and governors;
  • Establish high expectations and deliver outstanding outcomes for all students;
  • Win the trust of other educational institutions to support partnership working for the good of young people in the region;
  • Demonstrate professional credibility with relevant employers, industry stakeholders and professional bodies;
  • Display genuine innovation, not only in management and leadership, but in curriculum design, teaching and learning and the use of technology;
