Job overview

Principal, Birmingham

We need an inspiring principal to lead ARK Kings Academy in Birmingham at an exciting and challenging time in its development

Kings Norton High School became ARK Kings Academy in 2012. Since then, the staff have done great work in improving attendance and behaviour; creating a happy and cohesive school where every child can learn. However, for it to really thrive, the school still needs to improve its academic attainment and its pupil roll. We're looking for a new leader to join us at a pivotal moment in the school's journey toward stability and success.

We need a dynamic leader who can harness the team's energy and build on the progress that has already been made. Someone with a proven track record of continually raising standards, even in challenging contexts. Also, since the school is an ARK academy, we need someone who will be unwavering in supporting the ARK Schools vision: that every child, whatever their background, can go to university or pursue the career of their choice.

We recognise this is a demanding role. But it will be a hugely rewarding one. The talented and hardworking staff at the school will support you, as will the ARK Schools team. Together, we will give you whatever support you need to make ARK Kings Academy a success.

If you are an ambitious Headteacher or experienced Deputy with high expectations and a passion for excellent teaching, please get in touch.

The best way to find out more is to come and see the school. To arrange a visit or have an informal, confidential discussion, please call Corrina O'Beirne, Head of Principal Recruitment, on 0203 116 6310. Applications close at 10am on Friday 2 May. The link to apply is https://application.arkschools.net/vacancy/xd6qrP8M.

Application Deadline: 10am on Friday 2 May

ARK Schools is committed to safeguarding children; successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Ark Kings Academy reopened as an academy in 2012, having previously been known as Kings Norton Secondary School. It provides mixed, non-denominational secondary education for pupils aged 11-16 in Birmingham.

The school is run by Ark, an international charity that has 35 schools in Birmingham, Hastings, London and Portsmouth. Ark Kings Academy currently only offers places for pupils in Years 7-11, but it has plans to open a sixth-form in 2017.

Values and vision

Ark Kings Academy has been named the most improved academy in the country. It draws its ethos from its parent charity, Ark Schools, which was founded with the intention of providing high-quality education to students from deprived and disadvantaged backgrounds, thus reducing the gap between them and pupils from wealthier backgrounds.

As well as the development of pupils, Ark Kings Academy also focuses on the development of staff, providing an increased number of training days for teachers as well as additional support in order to aid their professional success.

Ofsted report

“Leaders ensure that disadvantaged pupils are well supported. Disadvantaged pupils make similar rates of progress to other pupils nationally … Relationships between pupils and teachers are good. This reflects pupils’ enjoyment of the learning experiences they have in school."
