Waverley Studio College is a 14-19 academy school located in Birmingham, West Midlands. With around 200 pupils in a co-educational setting, it is significantly smaller than the average secondary school, and has an extremely diverse catchment area, a fact reflected in its student body. As a studio school part of the Waverley Education Foundation Trust, Waverley Studio College is intended to provide more work-relevant qualifications and courses than most secondary schools, particularly in the fields of technology and enterprise. First opened in 2013, the school exists on a brand-new purpose-built site with a range of modern teaching and recreational facilities.

Values and Vision

The purpose of Waverley Studio School is to prepare its pupils for careers in a number of specific industries. To this end, the school assigns each pupil with a learning coach in order to ensure they are properly supported in their time at school, and have the personal development necessary to succeed in their future careers. The school makes extensive use of work placements and hands-on learning, and works closely with local business and industry.

Ofsted

“The curriculum meets studio school requirements and is sufficiently broad and balanced to meet pupils’ educational and vocational needs. It provides them with opportunities to develop and extend their interests through a range of worthwhile enrichment activities. In addition, all pupils participate in timetabled days exploring and working towards a level 1 award on understanding British values.”
