Job overview

Lead an outstanding high-profile school in Birmingham

St Alban's Academy is an outstanding school serving the Highgate area of Birmingham. It is part of the ARK Schools group, a network of 31 high-performing academies.

It is a school with great results. Since joining ARK Schools in 2009, the number of pupils gaining 5 A*-C GCSE grades (including maths and English) has more than doubled from 31% to 64%. In 2014, 83% of pupils achieved grade A* - C in English, a rise of 23 percentage points on the previous year. In mathematics, 80% of pupils achieved A* - C, maintaining the standards that saw the academy rated the top performing school in the country for progress in this subject in 2013.

In October 2011, Ofsted judged the St Alban's Academy as outstanding.

St Alban's specialises in engineering and maths - in fact it has the best engineering and technology facilities of any 11-18 school in Birmingham. Recently the school moved into its new award-nominated building, and opened a sixth form.

As a Church of England school, St Alban's is proud of its Christian principles, inclusive ethos, multi-faith intake and the strong links that it maintains with community groups.

St Alban's is a school that doesn't want to rest on its laurels, and as Principal you will be responsible for leading the school to its ambitious new aims. Over the next five years St Alban's plans to increase its 5 A*-C GCSE grades (including maths and English) to 90%, and it wants to become the highest attaining non-selective school in Birmingham. Therefore we are seeking an experienced and ambitious school leader who sees this as an opportunity not to only lead an outstanding school, but to make it better.

Joining St Alban's means you will be joining a high-profile school known for its academic excellence. You'll continue the great progress the school has made since becoming an ARK academy, while helping to lead ARK's expansion in Birmingham. And, as the school is part of ARK Schools, you will join a peer group of some of the best school leaders in the country - meaning you are guaranteed the best support.

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged, to arrange this or for an informal conversation please contact Corrina O'Beirne, Head of Principal Recruitment on 0203 116 6310.
