Job overview

Serving a large and diverse region in North East England, Northumberland College has an income of £17.5m, a cohort of 5,000 students and an incredibly varied offer. The college has achieved considerable recent success. In March 2013 we received our best ever Ofsted inspection result, which rated the college as Good, and our high student success rates are in the top 10% of colleges in England.

We are committed to our mission of shaping the futures of our students for the better and to contributing to the economic growth of the region through the development of skills. Operating from four campuses, our aim is to ensure that all of our students are taught in the highest quality learning environment, and we are currently undertaking exciting capital developments at our Ashington and Kirkley Hall sites to offer the highest levels of innovation and resources.

We work with over 700 employers across the North East including small businesses and larger enterprises, and we are supporting the regeneration of the local area by working in partnership to help fill the regional skills gap.

This is an exciting and progressive time to join as our Principal. We are seeking a visible and inspirational leader who will be effective in motivating and developing our workforce and engaging with our external stakeholders. We are innovative in considering future opportunities for the college, therefore our new leader should bring an entrepreneurial and creative flair, along with a passion for educational excellence.

We are keen to consider strong leaders from both within and beyond the FE sector, providing you have the gravitas and credibility to lead us on our continued journey to excellence.

At Northumberland College we are dedicated to helping people to achieve their dreams and ambitions, whatever they may be. However you see your future unfolding, we can help you make it happen.

Northumberland College is the college for Northumberland.

It is the only education and training institution in the region that offers training from campuses and centres across Northumberland.

Our two main campuses are at Ashington and Kirkley Hall – both established for more than 50 years. Ashington is home to the majority of full and part-time courses we run, while Kirkley Hall, near Ponteland, hosts our land-based training.

We also have three centres in Berwick – including our construction centre and a high street hair and beauty training salon.

In Alnwick our Fenkle Street centre in the heart of the market town includes a fully equipped IT suite and offers a wide range of short courses, from computing to childcare.

The Blyth centre also hosts a range of short courses including business and administration and IT and also boasts teacher assistant training.

Prudhoe is home to another construction training centre, catering for both school age and adult students, delivered in partnership with Tynedale Virtual College , in conjunction with Tyne Valley high schools.
Short courses are also run at a number of other locations, including Shilbottle Skills Centre, the Cheviot Centre in Wooler and premises in Seahouses, Choppington and Lynemouth.
In the past year alone we have created a new learning resource centre and cafe, a new art, design and multimedia block, and a new Info Zone providing award-winning information, advice and guidance.

Our sports halls at Ashington and Kirkley Hall are the focal point for most sporting and recreational activities, with a variety of college clubs and sports teams on offer. Further developments will see wider use for our base at Carlcroft in the Cheviot Hills , offering a number of outdoor pursuits.
