Located in the dynamic commercial capital of Shanghai, the Y K Pao School is at the forefront of educational reform in China. Founded in 2007 in memory of Sir Yue Kong Pao, a renowned business man, statesman and philanthropist, the school's vision is to combine the best aspects of Chinese education with experience and best practice from Western independent education. The school is already recognised as a pioneering school in China, being one of the first to bring together Chinese and international students; and it has been granted significant autonomy by the educational authorities to develop its own curriculum and approach. One of the key features of the curriculum is the unique dual-language environment. The Secondary Division is a boarding school with a boarding programme based on the model used by leading UK boarding schools.

The school seeks to appoint a new Executive Principal for the Secondary School (Years 6-10 : age 11-16), who will have responsibility for 500 students and 150 staff with further expansion planned for Years 11-12; the School is an IB Diploma candidate school. The new Principal will be appointed to build on the success achieved under the leadership of the current Principal, who retires from the School in July 2015. This is a unique opportunity for an exceptional educational leader to play a role in shaping the future of young minds as well as shaping education more broadly in China.

Candidates should be outstanding leaders with a strong personal academic background, and extensive leadership experience in an academically strong independent school; they should have the sensitivity to manage in a cross-cultural context and an understanding of children who have English as an additional language. They should be open-minded and flexible in their approach and have the skills and confidence to manage living and working in the different culture of Shanghai.
