The Department of Education and Professional Studies (DEPS), in the School of Social Science and Public Policy, wishes to appoint a Practitioner Researcher for the 'Best Practice in Grouping Students' research project, investigating setting and 'mixed ability' grouping, in the context of social inequality.
The post holder will contribute to the three and half year, Education Endowment Foundation funded project, which involves intervention delivery and research, in a Randomised Controlled Trial. Using intervention and mixed research methods, the project will explore effective practice in raising the achievement of secondary pupils with low prior attainment.
We are seeking to recruit an experienced practitioner researcher, ideally at Head of Subject level, with extensive secondary school experience and some expertise in social research. Experience of curriculum and/or CPD development and delivery, and expertise in issues around social identity and inequality, would be highly beneficial.
DEPS is an internationally recognised centre of excellence in teaching and research (see www.kcl.ac.uk/schools/sspp/education).
Details:
Applicants should be able to demonstrate: an interest in education and social justice; familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research methods; experience of working in secondary school, ideally in a middle-leadership role; expertise in the development of teaching and curriculum materials; outstanding writing and communication skills; and a commitment to improving teaching practice via research and CPD.
For an informal discussion of the post please contact Professor Becky Francis via email at Becky.Francis@kcl.ac.uk
