Setting the Standard for the Future
Part of the David Ross Foundation

Skegness Grammar School is a selective co-educational day and boarding secondary school.  We are a vibrant school community where students' behaviour and attitudes to learning are outstanding.

We have an exciting opportunity for you to become part of a creative, forward thinking school, dedicated to delivering high academic standards, allowing every child to achieve their full potential. We are seeking to appoint an ambitious and enthusiastic teacher who can demonstrate outstanding classroom practice.  All our teachers must have a commitment to inspiring our students through imaginative and creative teaching and learning.

Following an Ofsted inspection in May 2014, we are delighted to report that Skegness Grammar School is a Good school.  Key findings reported "since becoming an academy, examination results have improved impressively", "attainment in 2013 GCSE examinations was high, and students made better progress from their starting points than is seen in most schools".  Furthermore, this year we are delighted to report a total of 92% of students achieving five or more A* to C GCSEs, including Math and English - the second successive year the school has surpassed the 90% landmark.  In addition, the A-level results achieved 60% of passes at grade A* to B, with 50% of students applying for Russell Group University placements.

Are you an existing Head of Mathematics keen to embark on a fresh challenge?  Due to external promotion, The Headmaster and governors of Skegness Grammar School are looking to appoint an inspirational, forward thinking and successful practitioner to join our team as School Improvement Leader for Mathematics.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of the extended Senior Leadership Team and contribute at a whole-school level.

We wish to appoint an outstanding leader of mathematics to join us at an exciting stage of development for our school.  We have made a good start to this year, as stated in our recent HMI report (May 2014).  We have a hardworking and committed team of specialist teachers, improving facilities and achieving excellent results.  We aim to become an outstanding school in the next 18 months and want you to join us in the next phase of development of mathematics, to help achieve our aim of being recognised as a specialist mathematical sciences academy.

Students at the school make rapid progress, behaviour is exemplary and every member of staff enjoys a high level of professional support and training from the Senior Leadership Team.  The successful candidate will be empowered to become a proficient senior leader within the David Ross Education Trust.  Candidates must have a strong commitment and vision to achieve and deliver high academic standards and an outstanding learning experience for every child.

For further details and an application pack please contact Nicola Watton, School Business Coordinator, on telephone number 01754 610000 or e-mail enquiries@sgs.lincs.sch.uk

The closing date for applications is 29 September 2014, interviews are expected to be held soon after.

Applicants should note that the school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All successful applicants will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure Check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

About Skegness Grammar School

Located in Skegness, Lincolnshire, The Skegness Grammar School is a co-educational grammar school. First opened in 1483 by the founder of Magdalen College Oxford, William de Waynflete, the school has operated on its current site since 1933. After spending some time as a grant-maintained school, it converted to academy status in 2012, and is under the sponsorship of the David Ross Education Trust, a multi-academy group responsible for the running of a number of schools across the country. The school is smaller than average, with around 650 students.

As a grammar school, admission to Skegness is selective on the basis of academic achievement, with an entrance examination being required of students in order to gain admission. While the school sixth form is mostly made up of students from the lower school, around 25 places are available for students from other schools, with admission being made here based on school reports and GCSE results. Our sixth form cohort averages at around 130 students.

Values and Vision

Skegness Grammar School is a coastal, community grammar school. We serve all our hard-working scholars equally and in doing so we are actively addressing issues of disadvantage. Our mission is to ensure our young people succeed in reaching a top university, excel in their careers and are able to make sound moral choices.

We are proud of our inherited motto, which guides our choices and habits and means; doing the right thing makes us stronger.

Murus Aeneus Conscientia Sana

A sound conscious is a wall of brass

At our grammar school we use the rhetorical power of “three” and simple inclusive messaging to make our values have power. Below are our three key values:

Knowledge, Fairness, Practice.

Our staff:

· share our values and high expectations

· serve our hard-working scholars equally

· advocate our evidence-informed SGS Way

Ofsted

“Leaders, staff and those responsible for governance work together effectively, with a common purpose to keep improving all aspects of the school.”

“Pupils are polite and courteous to each other and adults. They know how to behave well and understand why good behaviour is important. They conduct themselves very well in lessons and during social times. Low-level disruption in lessons is not tolerated, allowing pupils to focus on their learning.”
