Ranum Efterskole College is a literary independent residential school with 404 learners. 300 learners follow the National Curriculum of Denmark and 104 learners follow a program based upon the Cambridge IGCSE programme with all lessons taught in English. All lessons are ability grouped in 5-7 classes per year group in 9th and 10th grade, as well as 4-5 classes in IGCSE.

The Danish efterskole is an independent school for learners typically aged 14-18, who can choose to spend one, two or three years to finish their upper secondary education. It is in many ways similar to the concept of boarding school, but has rather clear distinctions. Danish efterskoles are "continuation schools." Efterskoles are based on the principles of N.F.S. Grundtvig, who started Danish folk high schools in 1850 to educate Danish adults for participation in democracy. N.F.S. Grundtvig believed that schools should give enlightenment for life rather than formal training; key elements of education should include equality in the teacher-learner relationship, dialogue, freedom to shape one's own life, responsibility to the community, and equal value and dignity for all children.

We are seeking a teacher who can teach literary subjects, such as IGCSE as well as co-curricular subjects. For more information about our extensive range of co-curricular subjects please visit our website. Learners and teachers in unity create the content of co-curricular subjects and activities under the heading: Imagination and Outdoor sport.

  • Ability to teach IGCSE and AS level curriculum and consider IT a natural part of teaching
  • A Bachelor or Master´s degree in pure Sciences, Maths or General Science from an accredited college or university and a relevant teaching certificate.

  • loves to work with young individuals, both in school as well as in their spare time
  • will participate in the diversity of the everyday life of the school - in all its aspects, including travels abroad
  • is a decidedly team player who wants to participate in creating a vibrant school

On April 16th, from 3pm - 5pm, we will host a non-compulsory tour of the school at which we will inform you of the school's ethos, mission and activities, and it will be an opportunity for you to speak to one of our teachers. For more information or to book this tour, please contact Head of Ranum Efterskole College Joakim Philipsen on +45 31552903

Please mail your application including a formal CV, letter of interest and names of 2 references to: info@ranumefterskole.dk

The employment is effective from 1st of August 2014 and is full-time and permanent. Terms are in compliance with the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and LC (The Confederation of Teachers Unions).

About Ranum Efterskole College

The purpose of Ranum Efterskole College is to operate a self-governing, independent international residential school within the framework of existing rules on private residential schools in Denmark. This obliges us to provide development for everyone through challenging activities in a safe setting, focusing on both the academic content and the personal well-being. Learners are encouraged to maintain a balance between learning and a wide range of extra-curricular subjects and activities, with sporting and cultural achievements valued equally. It is a primary objective to ensure that learners develop a healthy and quality based lifestyle.

Global Learning and Beyond - captures our underlying philosophies of “Inclusive Community and Learning” and “Participatory Democracy” as well as our vision of offering something more than the conventional. It represents our unique combination of the Danish efterskole and the International Cambridge School, and it reflects our approach to global society. Moreover, and to some extent, more importantly, it is a guiding principle for how we conduct ourselves as a school - It shapes our behavior, informs our decision-making, guides our policy-setting and maintains our focus.

Ranum Efterskole College is a non-sectarian residential school. We welcome each and everyone, who wishes to be enrolled in our programs and contribute to our continuous growth and development.
