School Profile

Network International School enjoys a well established and strong reputation amongst the ex-pat and local communities within Myanmar.  It is known as a school that promotes teaching and learning where the child is at the heart of the learning experience.  We are a fast-growing school which offers the British National Curriculum; modified for region we are located.  English is the language of instruction.

Network International School was established by Mrs. Carole Kyaing and her husband, U Kyaing, in 1996 as Network Early Childhood Care and Development Centre. Carole comes from England and has a background in early childhood education. Her husband, originally from Myanmar, worked as a consultant for Binnie and Partners in England. They moved to Yangon in 1990.

Network began as a nursery school with just six children, all from different nationalities. As the demand for Network's education increased, parents asked Carole to take the next step and provide primary education. The first Reception students began in 2002; the Primary school started in 2003, with a curriculum based on the British National Curriculum but adapted for the international nature of the students.

Network now goes up to Year 10, and will continue to grow with the students until they complete their iGCSE qualifications in Year 11. There are over 570 students from 48 different nationalities, approximately half of whom are Myanmar. This rich diversity of cultures, beliefs and backgrounds encourages a wider worldview and the opportunity to share a broad range of experiences.

At Network we employ outstanding teachers with experience of the UK National curriculum from Britain and other English speaking countries. Within the classes we have many local staff who are assistants and teaching partners with the foreign teachers.  Part of the role of the foreign teachers is to train local teachers.  Some of our Myanmar teachers have been at Network for many years and have developed excellent teaching skills and a good understanding of pedagogy.  This is an ongoing process.

Country Information:
Yangon is a very friendly and safe place to live.  It is an exciting time to be living in Myanmar.  This country is at a point of change and working here can be a very rewarding experience.  There is an opportunity to make a real difference to the future for these children, who may one day be the leaders in the country, and to influence the direction of education.
