Job overview

Science Teachers, Redcar and Cleveland

When Gillbrook Academy and Eston Park Academy became sponsored by the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) in 2012 a joint Governing Body was established. It was accepted that the academies would amalgamate into one new academy - Hillsview Academy in September 2014.

It is envisaged that the present combined academy roll of 1,014 will grow to 1,250 in the next five years, with a further 200 plus in the sixth form. We have been successful in attracting £3million funding to enhance and enlarge the existing Gillbrook Academy buildings which will accommodate the new academy. The Gillbrook Academy building is a PFI development that was opened in November 2006.

This exciting amalgamation is intended to unite the community and deliver world class learning outcomes in an outstanding, modern learning environment whilst being mindful that the top priority for the community is that students leave the academy as happy, confident positive contributors to their community.

We wish to appoint forward thinking, dynamic Teachers who possess great energy and enthusiasm and have the ability to achieve the best possible outcomes for our students. You will be highly motivated and innovative and will have the ability to deliver lessons that will inspire our learners to succeed. Part time hours will also be considered.

Our Science department offers:

  • State of the art teaching facilities including a suite of seven laboratories with a further three dedicated teaching spaces. A further two laboratories are planned as part of the building programme.
  • Opportunity to teach the full age and ability range, including sixth-form
  • A flexible curriculum that meet the needs of all students
  • Dedicated support from a team of technicians and support staff
  • Experienced and effective leadership and support
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Opportunity to work within the wider learning team of Science & Technology

As the sponsor, the AET believes that all young people deserve to become world-class learners - to learn, enjoy, succeed and thrive in a first rate educational environment with the best facilities, the best teaching and the most up-to-date resources available to them. In each of the AET academies, you will benefit from visionary, inspirational and dynamic leadership and be empowered to develop your own skills with access to world-class CPD and Talent Management programmes. You will also be offered membership of a healthcare cash plan, the Ford Advantage Scheme and be entitled to Childcare Vouchers and much, much more!

These positions are required from 01 September 2014 and interviews are scheduled to take place 02 May 2014.

Closing date: 28 April 2014.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive an overwhelming response. All candidates are advised to refer to the job description and person specification before making an application.

Chief Executive Officer: Martyn Oliver

Principal: Andrew Wappat

We are a newly named academy, tucked in the shadow of the Eston Hills in Middlesbrough. We are proud of our industrial heritage, and of the work of generations of local families, mining the hills and crafting steel to build Britain. Whilst times have changed, we are committed to ensuring our future generations of students acquire the skills, confidence and qualifications to ensure they can go out into the world and make a huge difference.

Outwood Academy Normanby opened on 1 September 2019, sponsored by Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT). The original Outwood Grange Academy in Wakefield founded the Trust to lead the improvement of other schools in the North East of England. The Trust currently sponsors a number of secondary and primaries in the region. Outwood Grange Academy has been a National Training school for over ten years, was accredited as one of the country’s first Teaching Schools. The established Outwood Institute of Education continues this work.

The predecessor Hillsview Academy was judged by Ofsted in July 2017 to require special measures, and later chose Outwood Grange Academies Trust as sponsor to lead the school from a category to outstanding in as short a time as possible. We are determined that the academy will rapidly transform and we have a proven record of supporting schools in this way.

Our Academy vision is ‘Students First.’ We put our students at the heart of everything we do, and drive change in our schools quickly by focusing on ‘Raising Standards, Transforming Lives’. We simply believe that “the whole point of schools is that children come first and everything we do must reflect this single goal.”

We are determined to provide the highest of standards of education for students. Our innovative vertical curriculum personalises the learning of all students. Fast-track opportunities and workshops provide accelerated routes for some students while others have the time to succeed with longer period of GCSE study. Vocational, practical, creative and academic qualities are valued equally in the academy where we really do embrace the ‘Transferable Skills’ agenda.
