Our Vision

The Appleton Academy vision is to positively transform the achievement, education, skill levels and progression of children and young people from predominantly the Wyke area, so that they achieve their full potential as citizens, leaders and employees in a rapidly changing world.

This will be achieved through close collaboration and in partnership with staff, parents, our local community, other education establishments and our key stakeholders.

Appleton Academy will ensure that children and young people develop the skills in addition to the understanding required to be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve in their learning and in their chosen progression pathways post 16.

Our Ethos

  • Underpinning our vision is a set of core beliefs and values.
  • The Academy beliefs include:
  • All our learners, and those who support them, will benefit from having their horizons and expectations extended
  • All our learners can achieve to these personal horizons
  • All our learners should have access to the ‘best’ opportunities and teaching available
  • Success comes from active engagement with, and ownership of, their own learning
  • Learning must be appreciated as a lifelong process that will continually open up new opportunities
  • All young people need to have self confidence, a strong sense of personal and social responsibility, and eventually ‘work’ and life skills
  • Staff are our most important resource
  • The best results come from a ‘culture’ of collaboration and partnership

The values that underpin our beliefs and actions should include respect for ourselves, respect for and tolerance of others and respect for the environment. These are seen as the key aspects of citizenship. Appleton Academy will also value:

  • Openness
  • Honesty
  • Creativity and inspiration
  • A healthy, critical perspective on new ideas
  • A “can do” attitude and approach
  • Hard work, perseverance and striving for excellence
  • Empathy and being prepared to listen to what others have to say
  • Helpfulness and a thoughtful attitude and approach to others
  • Being responsive to feedback

Appleton Academy was formed in September 2009 by the merging of a local primary and secondary school.  We moved into our new, state of the art, building in November 2012 which provides a well thought out purposeful and inspirational learning environment.  It provides a wonderful environment in South Bradford for lifelong learning and is already a landmark which can be seen many miles away as it is in a prominent position overlooking the Pennines.

We are an expanding all through Academy and are looking to appoint exceptional staff to join us on a journey that we are confident will be highly successful, making a real difference to the education and well-being of our community.

Appleton Academy is part of the Bradford College Educational Trust, part of the Bradford College family.  This offers progression onto a range of courses for students from the age of 14.

Our building is built into the hillside and as well as offering facilities for “traditional sports” we are able to offer such activities as climbing, mountain biking, and BMX biking.  We have a flourishing outdoor education department and our Dragon boaters have recently been recognised for their outstanding contribution and have been awarded elite crew status.  Our out of school activities are numerous and varied:  Duke of Edinburgh Award, Wiggle & Jiggle for Parents and Toddlers, Breakdancing, Trampolining and Story Corner.  Our clubs include:  Art, Chatterbooks, Cookery, Spanish, Football, Cheerleading, PE & Badminton.  The activities mentioned are by no means finite and you can find members of both teaching and support staff actively involved in such clubs which shows the dedication of our staff outside the parameters of classroom teaching.

We will be recruiting from March to June 2014 as we continue to grow in both the primary and secondary areas.  We will be looking for candidates who believe in our vision of positively transforming the achievement, education, skill levels and progression of children and young people so that they achieve their full potential as citizens, leaders and employees in our rapidly changing world.

The values that underpin our beliefs and actions should include respect for ourselves, respect for and tolerance of others and respect for the environment.  These are seen as the key aspects of citizenship.

If you truly believe in our striving for “Aspiration and Achievement in Wyke” then we would like to hear from you.
