We are seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to assist in the leadership of our large and successful English Department. You should have a clear understanding and experience of the strategies required to challenge and improve progress at all levels across Key Stages 3 to 5.

As a classroom practitioner you will be able to enthuse, engage, motivate and challenge students to raise achievement at all levels. The successful post holder will be expected to teach across the age and ability range and have a proven track record of promoting outstanding progress and outcomes for students at GCSE and / or A' Level.

You will work closely with the Director of English in developing a provision that ensures a high quality experience for all. You should have good communication and leadership skills as well as experience of successfully implementing strategies to develop teaching and learning across your Department. You should be highly organised with the ability to lead initiatives, introduce new strategies and evaluate impact to ensure quality progress and learning for all.

English at Headlands School has a high uptake at A' level. Results this year were 76.2% A* to B, 95.2% A* to C and 100% pass rate. We are looking for a candidate who can build upon these excellent results.

This post provides an excellent opportunity to work in a well-resourced school and within a dedicated and hard-working team. You will join a friendly and hardworking team and will have the opportunity to develop through first class CPD.

The successful candidate can expect to be part of a wider staff community committed to making a real difference to the young people of Bridlington. Bridlington is a coastal town which is undergoing rapid regeneration and significant financial investment. Quality of life in the East Riding is exceptionally high - housing is plentiful and prices are lower than many other parts of the country.

If you want to be part of an establishment that highly values its staff and provides opportunities for further development and promotion, we want to hear from you.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This appointment will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

Headlands is a lively, vibrant, friendly and purposeful community. We also believe that this positive school ethos significantly impacts on the health and well-being of students and staff. This is a happy and successful school.

Headlands now operates a Vertical Tutor Group system. In this system tutor groups are created from a mixture of year groups from year 7 – 11. The school is divided into five Houses to which a number of the groups belong.

Headlands School is very proud of its status as a Specialist Science College. We were one of the first schools in the country to achieve this status and are preparing for re-designation this year.

Being a Specialist College means we:
• are a member of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust
• are able to have smaller GCSE classes in some subjects
• can run a number of extra GCSE classes that do not normally run at state schools
(such as Geology and Astronomy)
• can run classes for the community such as GCSE Maths and ICT training
• have frequent events and trips for pupils
