Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and inspirational second in charge of the Mathematics Faculty within the Basildon Upper Academy.

The Basildon Academies are two state of the art Academies based in Essex, just 35 minutes from London. The Lower Academy specialises in the teaching of our students aged 11-14 whilst the Upper Academy specialises in our 14-19 year old student populations. The Academies are approximately 1 mile apart. The role is based on our Upper Academy (KS4/5).

This is a unique opportunity for someone, possibly making their initial move into middle management, who has the skills and enthusiasm to make a significant contribution to the development of this highly motivated and forward thinking academy. The successful candidate will be well-qualified, enthusiastic and inspirational teacher of Mathematics who is ready to take up a leadership position as within the faculty. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach across both Key Stage 4 and 5.

We are keen to hear from you if you have the ability to enthuse and motivate able students, a track record of success in raising standards and excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to become a leader within a strong, hardworking and forward looking Mathematics Faculty.

Specific leadership responsibilities will be matched to the strengths and professional development requests of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have excellent subject knowledge in Maths
  • Be an experienced classroom practitioner who is able to consistently demonstrate 'good' lessons Have experience of raising attainment in a classroom environment
  • Have a genuine belief in the potential of every child
  • Have high expectations for all pupils
  • Have a flexible 'can do' attitude
  • Be a strong team player
  • Be available in the UK for an 'in person' interview

Basildon Upper Academy is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational, 14-19 academy with sixth form, situated in Basildon in Essex. Along with the Basildon Lower Academy, it forms The Basildon Academies Trust. The academies share an executive principal, but each academy has its own leadership with a head of academy. There are 576 students on the secondary school’s roll, 207 students of whom are enrolled on 16 to 19 study programmes.
