The British School of Abu Dhabi (BISAD) is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Secondary EAL teacher to join the team in August 2014.
BISAD is at an exciting stage of its development, having grown very significantly in the past few years and now proudly educating approximately 1,200 students aged 3-18. The school offers the English National Curriculum in Key Stages 1-3, with a broad range of iGCSE examinations being undertaken at Key Stage 4. Our Post 16 offer includes both the International Baccalaureate Diploma and A Levels.
As a qualified secondary teacher you will have experience of delivering the English National Curriculum, be committed to developing individualised approaches to learning and experienced in the latest assessment methods. You will be an excellent communicator, who works in partnership with colleagues, students and parents to deliver educational excellence. Teachers at The British International School Abu Dhabi are confident, well organised, have a good sense of humour and participate fully in all aspects of school life within and beyond the classroom.
In fulfilling the requirements of the post, the teacher will demonstrate essential professional characteristics, and in particular will:
- Inspire trust and confidence in pupils and colleagues;
- Build team commitment with colleagues and in the classroom engage and motivate pupils;
- Demonstrate analytical thinking Improve the quality of pupils' learning contribute to the school improvement / development planning and promote the learning priorities of the school SDP;
- Promote the wider aspirations and values of the school
Some key tasks and responsibilities of the post will include:
- Use teaching methods which will engage students and stimulate pupils' intellectual curiosity including the use of effective questioning, clear presentation and good use of resources
- Set high expectations for pupils' behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of behaviour management through well focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships in accordance with the rules and behaviour policy of the school
- Identify clear teaching objectives, content, structures and sequences of lessons appropriate to the educational needs of the pupils in his/her class
- Set appropriate, realistic yet demanding expectations for pupils' learning, building on prior attainment/knowledge
- Know how to prepare and present informative reports to parents in a professional manner based upon monitoring procedures adhered to within the school
- Understand the need to take responsibility for their own professional development and to keep up to date with research and developments in pedagogy as relevant to their own department and mainstream departments.
- Interact on a professional level with colleagues and seeks to establish and maintain productive relationships in order to promote mutual understanding of the school curriculum with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and learning in the school
- Select appropriate resources which enable teaching objectives to be met by all learners.
