Secondary Science (Key Stages 3, 4 and 5) in Thailand

Contract term: Two academic years, renewable

RBIS Rasami British International School (NOR 200 boys and girls aged 18 months -18 years), an accredited member of CfBT, requires an experienced and enthusiastic Science Teacher for August 2014.

We seek an experienced, flexible and well-qualified professional who combines creative energy and a sense of adventure with the highest teaching standards. Above all we seek a real commitment to academic excellence.

General Science is taught in Key Stage 3: Year, 7, 8 and 9; in Key Stage 4 we prepare students for the CIE IGCSE Coordinated Sciences (Double Award), which is compulsory for all students up to and including Year 11, and we also challenge our more able students to consider and undertake single sciences. Moreover, we are currently trying to establish our A Level programme of study. For the right candidate this will be an exciting time to join the school. Previous experience of teaching Science / Biology / Chemistry / Physics within the National Curriculum for England and Wales is expected; knowledge and experience of AS and A2 Sciences are highly desirable.

RBIS was established more than forty years ago and is an independent organisation enjoying a growing reputation for individualised attention, small class sizes and academic success. The school offers a stimulating learning environment in which academic excellence is balanced with opportunities for personal growth. This is achieved through an established, high-quality curriculum and a commitment to the care and welfare of every child. Using the Early Years areas of learning through to A Level education we aim to maximise the benefits and opportunities for all our students. Our learning is based on respect for the individual and recognising the diverse cultural backgrounds within our school. We aim to develop every child as a successful learner; a confident individual; and a responsible and respectful citizen of the world.

RBIS occupies a pleasant site with the heart of Bangkok, a cosmopolitan and dynamic city, which is a hub for many activities in SE Asia and an exciting place in which to live and work. It combines history, cultural activities, travel opportunities and sport, while the city is ideally located to give easy access to much of Thailand and beyond.

Our teachers work within a mutually encouraging team, the students are appreciative, respectful and enthusiastic and their parents supportive.

Of paramount importance is safeguarding the children in our care. Applicants must agree to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the position. This will include reference checks with previous employers or Police authorities (e.g. CRB).

Minimum requirements include at least two years' teaching experience in a British curriculum school. Applicants must hold Qualified Teacher Status (or equivalent).

If you wish to provide supplementary documentation to support your application this can be sent at the same time.

Further details are available on the school website www.rbis.ac.th.

The deadline for receipt of applications is 4pm (GMT) on Friday 25th April 2014.

Please include contact details for at least two professional referees as well as a photograph. Shortlisted candidates will be notified and invited to interview, which will be initially a Skype conversation within the week commencing Monday 28th April 2014.

A great teaching opportunity awaits you in Thailand.

RBIS Bangkok is an academically non-selective, all-age and co-educational day school located close to the heart of one of the world’s greatest cities.

Our unique character has evolved to meet the needs of the community we serve and with children at the heart of everything we do, as RBIS fast approaches the celebration of a golden jubilee, the school has had time to mature in to a very special place to learn and grow.

We welcome amazing students and educators and offer a holistic education with learning pathways from EYFS through to A level examinations and BTEC qualifications and an established record of both high academic standards and personal development.

As teachers we work with students with a strong sense of personal identity and very positive teamwork abilities. RBIS students are confident learners, they are open minded thinking about their actions and making good choices as contributors to the international community we are all part of. The international thinking of students and staff creates a diverse and exciting learning environment.

Our smaller class sizes mean more individual attention for each student and provide an ideal atmosphere for friendships to grow.

The school provides an intensive but supportive EAL programme to enable students to develop the English language skills in order to access all aspects of our broad and balanced curriculum.

What’s in our future?

Well - we hope you may be.

In the year of celebrations for our golden jubilee we are in an exciting period of our history.

New 6th Form educational developments have brought BTEC opportunities to enhance our traditional A levels option choices. Exciting investment in new facilities on both of our school sites will complement our existing city-garden environment and bring even better learning opportunities to the community.

RBIS offers a welcoming, inclusive and stimulating place to work. If you want to be part of our team you will need to be passionate about teaching and learning and knowledgeable about the factors that affect great learning.

Working at RBIS gives you all of the advantages of the fantastic environment of Bangkok city.  As a school we are at the center of what many consider to be a perfect place to live; providing a foreigner-friendly climate, a healthier lifestyle and relieving your stress. The city offers one of the world’s leading food scenes, a thriving shopping hub and a growing art scene on your doorstep and superb travel opportunities to many exciting places close by. As a top destination for people from all over the globe this is a great place to make new friends, to be welcomed by your professional colleagues in school, and by local Thai people.

As you consider a life-changing career move you may think of our city for its beautiful temples, glorious street food or vibrant culture and night life; but time spent at RBIS Bangkok is all about learning experiences, both for our students and for our teaching team. So here are some little known facts for you to share with family and friends as you discuss this exciting opportunity . . .

The name Bangkok is only used by foreigners. Locals will call the capital city of Thailand “Krung Thep” which can literally be translated as “City of Angels”. But this is still not the official name of Bangkok. This city has a tongueful name of “Krungthepmahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Noppharatratchathaniburirom Udomratchaniwetmamahasathan Amonphimanawatansathit Sakkathattiyawitsa nukamprasit” (the longest capital city name in the world!)

Don’t be surprised if you are on the streets of the city and everyone just stands up or stops walking. At 8.00 a.m. and 6 p.m. the National Anthem is the soundtrack to Bangkok. Every Thai citizen will stand and pay respect to the national Anthem.

If all of this excites you and you want to learn more then please apply to RBIS Bangkok. We would love to talk to you.
