Job overview

Senior Curriculum Design (Leadership focus), Southwark

How much you achieve in life should not be determined by how much your parents earn. Yet in the UK, it too often is. We are an education charity. We train people with leadership potential to be inspirational teachers in schools in low-income communities across the country so that every child can have the education they are entitled to.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to make a demonstrable difference working on the design of this two year Leadership Development Programme and help ensure no child's educational success is limited by their socio-economic background. You'll join a growing, fast paced and forward-thinking team who are responsible for the learning objectives, subject matter, learning content, developmental exercises, evaluation methods and media choices of the programme. Depending on your experience, you will either join as a Senior Design Officer or Design Manager.

As Senior Design Officer, you will create useful, rigorous and innovative content for the Teach First community. You'll be responsible for designing curriculum sessions and a diverse range of learning opportunities for participants and ambassadors, as well as other members of the Teach First community. You will oversee some aspects of delivery, assist with quality assurance, contribute to participant resources and ultimately work to improve the content's impact on delegates and pupils.

As Design Manager, your focus will be on the overall departmental strategy and delivery. You'll be responsible for identifying, developing and evaluating the design of the two year experience with the ultimate goal of ensuring that our participants and ambassadors are equipped to impact upon the vision of Teach First in the short and long term. You'll build relationships on a national scale to identify local area developmental needs and design learning experiences which meet those needs.

For both roles, candidates will need experience of leadership development design for early career professionals and a robust understanding of theories that underpin this work. You'll need superb communication skills, a high degree of initiative, personal organisation skills, commitment to eliminating educational disadvantage, attention to detail, and dedication to personal growth and learning. Deep knowledge about the learning process and teaching best practices are essential.

To apply, please include a CV and covering letter, outlining which role you are interested in (Senior Officer, Manager, or both), why you want to join Teach First and how you meet the competencies outlined above.

Closing date: 27 April 2014

Teach First is an independent educational charity, Reg. No. 1098294, established in 2002 to directly address the problem of educational disadvantage.  Now in its eighth year, Teach First has already changed the lives of thousands of young people. Working with a range of partner organisations Teach First harnesses the energy, enthusiasm and drive of exceptional graduates to provide leadership, motivation and, above all, inspirational teaching in challenging schools across England, through a two year Leadership Development Programme.  The Programme combines working, qualifying and training as a teacher with leadership development training, coaching and mentoring, and a range of networking and internship opportunities. Beyond the two-year Programme, Teach First works to empower, equip and mobilise its ambassadors (alumni) with the skills, tools and networks they need to support the Teach First mission by driving forward sustainable change in education from both inside and outside the classroom.

Teach First is currently ranked 8th in the coveted league of Times Top 100 Graduate Employers – the highest ranked charity in Britain, and was the Charity Awards Education and Training Charity of the Year 2009. The organisation currently has 160 employees across the country with an annual operating budget of over £12 million. We rely on voluntary donations from companies and foundations and other sources to continue our work.  We also receive support from the government and uniquely have been identified by all three political parties in their election manifestoes as an initiative they each wish to support and expand.
