Job overview

Senior Inspector, London

Primary/EYFS, Secondary, Boarding, Further Education

The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) is the agency responsible for the inspection of schools in membership of the Associations of the Independent Schools Council (ISC), representing the leading independent schools in the UK and collectively educating the vast majority of pupils in the independent sector. ISI has developed rapidly over the last six years, working closely with the Department for Education to take on major new accountabilities for early years and boarding welfare inspection, where its operations are the largest in the country. In 2011, ISI also began the inspection of Private Further Education Colleges on behalf of the Home Office as well as expanding its role overseas.

This is a hugely exciting time to join ISI, in a new type of role supporting inspections. The range of work will be varied - including leading inspection teams, monitoring inspections, editing reports and training new inspectors. You will also join the team that advises schools and colleges about inspection matters, and supports inspectors by telephone and email. We expect that you will become an expert on all aspects of inspection of independent education and represent ISI to a wide range of stakeholders, including at public events.

Whilst the role is envisaged as full-time, options of term time or substantial part-time working will be actively considered. The roles can be based from home or ISI's London office.

To apply, please send a full CV and covering letter to recruitment@isi.net by 9 May 2014.

ISI requires all inspectors to undergo pre-recruitment screening, including checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Information about ISI is available on our website: www.isi.net

About Independent Schools Inspectorate

The Independent Schools Inspectorate is an independent, expert organisation appointed by the Secretary of State for Education to conduct high-quality inspections against the regulations for independent schools in England.  These regulations are The Independent School Standards and are set by Parliament.  All independent schools in England must meet these Standards and we report to the Department for Education on the extent to which these Standards are met. For schools providing pupil accommodation, we also inspect against additional requirements set out in the National Minimum Standards (NMS) for Boarding Compliance and against the Early years inspection framework where relevant. All inspection reports are published on the ISI website. The Department for Education sets out detailed requirements that all independent inspectorates must meet in order to retain continued approval.

There are approximately 2,300 independent schools in England, and ISI inspects those which are members of the associations which make up the Independent Schools Council (approximately 1,300 schools).  The remaining schools are inspected by Ofsted.  The schools we inspect tend to be the larger independent schools; over 85% of pupils in independent education in England attend schools inspected by ISI.  The schools we inspect vary greatly in character, from small day schools to large boarding schools, single sex, specialist schools like music and dance schools and schools with a specific religious ethos.

Please note that you are wholly responsible for fact checking in respect of the information provided by schools. Please also check for the latest visa and work permit requirements that may apply. Tes is not responsible for the content of advertisements or the policies adopted by advertising schools. Tes asks that all schools follow Tes' Fair Recruitment Policy.
