Senior Lecturer in Education- Mathematics, Northamptonshire

2 posts

The University of Northampton is seeking innovative educational professionals to join the thriving academic community within the School of Education.

40 years of excellence in initial teacher training, early years education provision and with a national and international reputation for SEN, we are seeking dynamic educational professionals to join the Teacher Education Mathematics team.

We particularly welcome applications from mathematics teachers and leaders in schools and other educational organisations

The University of Northampton is seeking to appoint two Senior Lecturers in Education (Mathematics) to contribute to mathematics education across the School with the major contribution in initial teacher education and postgraduate professional development (masters level) mathematics for teachers. These are full-time permanent Senior Lecturer in Education positions at an appropriate point on Grade 8. The successful candidates are expected to provide leadership in relation to an aspect of mathematics education.

Initial Teacher Training is the largest taught portfolio in the School of Education and makes a significant contribution to the University's regional engagement mission. The School has an excellent regional and national reputation for the quality of its programmes. The School's ITT programmes (early years; primary; secondary; post-compulsory; UG and PG; employment-based) have achieved grades 1 or 2 in all Ofsted inspection cells. Our ITT programmes also have a strong reputation for high retention, employment and trainee satisfaction rates and we are currently one of the highest rated providers by NQTs for the quality of our early reading and systematic synthetics phonics training. The School of Education has an excellent reputation for its teaching and research and is committed to continually improving the learning, teaching and assessment opportunities for students. In September 2009, the University was awarded the contract for the provision of M level Primary Mathematics Specialist training in the region, and is the lead partner working with other HEI's and LA's in the region. This is an outstanding programme with strong evidence of students completing this programme continuing to study with us on the MA Education mathematics pathway.

The post holder will have excellent professional and subject knowledge in mathematics and professional development together with the ability to convey this with skill and enthusiasm. The post also requires excellent skills in relation to developing a high quality mathematics learning environment, innovative approaches to learning & teaching, and effective collaborative working with a range of academic, professional and support staff to support the achievement of best practice in mathematics education. The development of high quality on-line programmes is a strategic goal to enhance our regional and international activity.

All teaching within the School of Education is underpinned by research and scholarly activity, and it is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to the School of Education's research and consultancy strategy. For applicants who are currently working as practitioners, the School offers an extensive programme of staff development linked to teaching in higher education and support for further study at higher degree level and developing research activity. All academic staff are expected to gain HEA recognition and doctoral level qualifications.

The School offers courses at a range of venues, particularly as part of our continual professional development and outreach activities. Our extensive partnership work involves visiting schools and settings to supervise and support students and working collaboratively with settings' staff. The post holders will therefore need to be able to travel effectively. Expenses are paid at an agreed rate.

The Vice Chancellor or Executive Dean of School may request of the appointee any reasonable duties within the University, including evening and weekend activities
