Role Purpose
You will join the Primary Learning and Achievement Team as a Senior School Improvement Officer. The key purpose of this team is to ensure that Primary and Nursery schools continue to deliver successful outcomes for pupils.

You will be a key officer in the delivery of the Service Level Agreement for Primary School Improvement. This will entail working with specific schools and groups of schools in supporting areas identified for development.

You will also be expected to work with senior leaders in their schools to secure improvements. A key role will be to support schools in the changing Curriculum, Assessment and Ofsted landscape.

Key Responsibilities
You will be required:

  1. To ensure that primary, primary special and nursery schools have every opportunity to improve further so that standards and progress continue to rise to above national averages at Key Stage One and Key Stage Two and to improve significantly the attainment at the end of EYFS whilst reducing the gap between the lowest 20% and the rest.
  2. To support the LA's statutory duty of intervening in schools where standards and quality are unacceptably low.
  3. To promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovative ways of working together in partnership with each other, local secondary schools, nursery schools and under 5 provision.
  4. To support the delivery of the Primary School Improvement Service level agreement with primary schools and nursery schools by providing training and school based consultancy.
  5. To lead on the monitoring and evaluation of the performance of the LA's schools and reporting to the Head of Achievement, Birth to 11, Service Head for Learning and Achievement and the Director of Education, Social Care and Wellbeing.
  6. To deputise for the Head of Learning and Achievement, Birth to 11 when necessary.

Requirements
You will need:

  • A thorough understanding of how schools operate across all phases of education and in particular of school improvement strategies.
  • A thorough knowledge of current methods of reviewing and evaluating teaching and learning in schools, particularly in relation to school self-improvement
  • The ability to provide purposeful, imaginative INSET and to produce clearly writ-ten support materials, reports and other documentation.
  • Significant senior management experience within a school, preferably at head-teacher level, or successful advisory experience at national or local authority level.
  • Proven successful experience of managing major changes in service delivery
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, solution focused in approach.
  • Committed to the delivery of services designed to close the progress and attainment gap for all pupils, and to continuous service improvement.
  • Highly effective leadership and motivational skills, that develop and enthuse others and contribute to the development of effective schools in the Borough.
  • The ability to form positive relationships with school staff, team members, parents and children from diverse backgrounds.
  • The ability to work with schools in ways which raise aspirations and expectations, and encourage schools to engage in support and advice leading to improved outcomes for all their pupils.
