Job overview

Marlborough College Malaysia (2015-2016)

Senior School Teacher of Biology (for August 2015)

Marlborough College Malaysia is a co-educational boarding and day school that opened in August 2012. The school is situated in 90 acres of the Iskandar region of Malaysia close to Singapore and Johor Bahru.

In 2015-2016, the Senior School will complete a first phase of development when pupils will graduate to university study with IB Diploma results. In this academic year there will be a total of around 350 pupils across the five year groups that make up the Senior School (Years 9-13).

The campus also provides for pupils aged from 4 years old (Reception) up with the full roll next year at around 850. Boarding operates in Houses accommodating boys and girls in Years 5-8 and Years 9-13. Over the next five years the College will grow to a maximum capacity of 1300 pupils.

The school is not a franchise but a genuine expansion of Marlborough College in the UK and is managed and governed by people who have a strong association with Marlborough.

Most teaching staff live on campus in their first year and are expected to contribute towards the life of a full boarding school. Residential leadership roles may be available as Housemaster/Housemistress or Resident House Tutor. As a general expectation all applicants should be prepared to participate in the co-curricular programme (including occasional weekends) and carry out a tutor duty once per week in the evening. IB Diploma pupils in Years 12 and 13 have timetabled lessons on a Saturday morning.

We are seeking a Teacher of Biology to teach across Years 9-13.

Interest or experience in the following could also be advantageous:

  • Ability to teach at least one of Chemistry or Physics to IGCSE
  • IB Diploma / IGCSE Biology
  • EAL experience
  • Pastoral care of pupils, particularly in a boarding environment
  • A co-curricular passion, be it sport, outdoor education, the arts or service

Employment Package

A very attractive package including an excellent salary, free accommodation, free utilities, free food during term time, flights every two years, private healthcare, subsidised school places and a shipping allowance will be offered to successful candidates.

There may be additional positions available in the Prep and Senior School later this year: teaching couples are encouraged to apply even if an exact combination of subjects is not advertised at this time.

How To Apply

Please send a covering letter (no more than 1 side of A4), a recent photograph and a completed application form to recruitment2015@marlboroughcollege.my

Information regarding the school can be found at www.marlboroughcollege.my.

Closing date for applications: Monday 10th November, though interviews may take place before this date in Malaysia, at Marlborough College, UK or by Skype.
