Job overview

Sole Deputy Principal, Hartlepool

Hartlepool Sixth Form College is a vibrant, successful and dynamic College, with a national and international tradition of academic excellence. In Summer 2013 our students achieved the best-ever A2 pass rate of 99.8%; all the more remarkable given that 45% of our young people come from our 'widening participation' areas.

Our new, £24 million building (which won the SCALA National Award for Education Building of 2011) ensures our students have world-class facilities and an environment that adds real value to their education, and although the college is slightly smaller than the typical Sixth Form College (we have about 1000 students), we are experiencing growth.

We are looking for a passionate and dynamic sole Deputy Principal to support our newly-appointed Principal, Alex Fau-Goodwin, in achieving our vision of becoming 'outstanding' in OfSTED terms whilst maintaining growth, academic success and inclusivity. In return, we offer tremendous job satisfaction; friendly, professional and dedicated staff; enthusiastic, lively and committed students; a relocation package and excellent quality of life in this historic coastal town.

Probably an Assistant Principal in a Sixth Form College, General Further Education College, or an 11-19 school with substantial Sixth Form, or an existing Vice/Deputy Principal looking for the challenge of a sole DP role as a progression route to Principalship, it will be your people-focus and inspirational leadership style that sets you apart as the right candidate for this role.

For further information and application pack, please visit www.leadhartlepool.co.uk or contact our advisers, ASDTi, by email gm@asdti.com or tel 01457 851407.

Closing date: 11pm, 12th May 2014.
Interviews are scheduled for the week of 19th May 2014.

Hartlepool Sixth Form College is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational, general further education college situated in Hartlepool, County Durham. It is a 16-plus institution that recruits learners from five local partner schools, plus international students, often from China. There are approximately 928 learners aged 16 and over, the majority of whom study full-time.

Hartlepool Sixth Form College was first established in 1985 on a single site in the town centre, where it still stands today as the only specialist sixth-form college in the Hartlepool area. A consultation is under way on a proposed merger between Hartlepool Sixth Form College and City of Sunderland College.

Principal

Maureen Bunter

Values and vision

Hartlepool Sixth Form College provides a high level of support to its learners, offering a friendly and encouraging environment with a strong sense of community, respect and tolerance. Its aim is to give students an excellent educational experience that enables them to achieve their full potential, providing them with a strong foundation from which they can progress to further education or into the increasingly competitive world of work.

Ofsted report

“A tangible ethos of high expectations has rapidly improved the quality of learners’ experience and the results they achieve. Dynamic and challenging senior leadership and governance of the college have led to considerable improvements since the last inspection. Throughout their study programme learners improve their self-confidence and raise their expectations; as a result, they are well prepared for higher education or employment. [Learners] feel very safe and their behaviour in college is exemplary.”
