Job overview

Special Needs Teacher for Pupils on the Autistic Spectrum

Broadlands Hall School is part of the Barnardiston Hall Group. It specialises in care and education for Young People aged between 11 - 19 years, all of whom are on the autistic spectrum and require specialist 1:1 or 2:1 teaching. The job is challenging and rewarding, with Young People making significant progress.

Broadlands Hall is graded Outstanding by Ofsted in its last full inspection. It is well-resourced and staffed by a dedicated and enthusiastic team of qualified teachers and experienced LSAs.

The successful candidate will have previously worked in a Special Needs setting and will, ideally, have experience of teaching young people on the Autistic Spectrum. Patience, dedication, a calm approach and the ability to work as a part of a team, as well as on a 1:1 basis, are essential as is the ability to restrain, if needed (full training will be given).

Broadlands Hall is situated in the grounds of the Care Home and all our Young People are residential. The School is very small (maximum 21 pupils) and has been purpose-built to a high standard to reflect the level of care required. Bright and airy modern classrooms all have interactive whiteboards and a Sensory Room is situated at the heart of the School. A large Games Room is available for leisure activities and the School itself is set in beautiful grounds which lend themselves to outdoor activities. A hard Games Court is available for football or tennis.

Pupils at the School all have IEPs which reflect their ability and, for those who are unable to access the National Curriculum, we offer a comprehensive ASDAN programme of life skills.

Full training in Non Aggressive Psychological and Physical Intervention, Makaton (sign language), PECS (picture exchange system) and Autism is given and we encourage continuing professional development.

Set in 32 acres of grounds on the borders of Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire, the School offers individual all-round education for boys and girls, both day and boarding (weekly and full). With the completion of a major new extension, we now believe that we offer some of the very best classroom facilities of any school in the area whilst our Pre-Prep Department enables younger children to learn in bright and spacious classrooms, in a traditional building full of character and charm.
