What it's about

OCR's Special Requirements team is responsible for processing applications for access arrangements, special consideration and the modification of OCR assessment materials for disabled candidates. We are now looking for an experienced manager to lead the team. Working closely with the Head of Compliance this role is key in ensuring that OCR meets its duties under the Equality Act and the General Conditions of Recognition.
 
What you'll be doing

You will:

  • Manage the processing of all applications for special consideration, access arrangements and modified question papers
  • Make decisions on the most complex and difficult cases using expert knowledge of relevant JCQ regulations and the Equality Act
  • Advise a wide range of internal and external stakeholders on non-standard issues relating to disadvantaged and disabled candidates representing the Special Requirements Team at internal and external JCQ forums as required
  • Manage, train and support the team, ensuring that the fluctuating workload is effectively managed.

What we're looking for

You are a confident individual with first rate interpersonal skills and a flexible, pro-active approach to your work. A natural problem solver, you will have a proven ability in managing your workload when under pressure to meet ever changing demands on your time. Your experience of managing or supervising a team will enable you to effectively lead the work of this area.

Excellent customer service and communication skills (both verbal and written) are essential for this role, as you will have a considerable amount of customer contact. Knowledge of relevant Equality Legislation would be an advantage as would a general grasp of assessment procedures and criteria. Experience of dealing with customers over complex and sensitive issues is desirable.
