The Governors of Prees CE Primary School seek to appoint a specialist Key Workers for a child with complex physical and communications needs.

This post is specialised in that the applicants must have some experience working either in a Special school or with working with an individual with extremely complex physical and communication needs in a mainstream school. An understanding of manual handling, the use of hoists and different types of wheelchairs and communication through the use of technology is essential. There would be programmes of therapy to be delivered, which would be set by a Physiotherapist, the Speech and Language team and Occupational therapist.

The successful applicant would need to be able to adapt and modify the curriculum in order for the child to access effective learning, using ICT. They would be working alongside a second key worker in order to meet the child's intimate care needs.

Support and further training would also be available from the Severndale Outreach team (TASS).

Essential Qualities:

• Patience, good humour and a genuine affinity with children.
• A desire to find out and understand about the specific challenges to learning faced by the individual and to adapt learning to meet them.
• Willingness to attend to intimate personal care.
• A willingness to participate in appropriate training.
• Some understanding of the demands the National curriculum and assessment.
