Subject Leader of Mathematics

MPR plus TLR 1C (£10,702.00)

Greenwood Academy, based in Birmingham, is an incredible school that sits in the very heart of a very special community. We are transforming the learning experience for our students to ensure they achieve academic success, whilst developing the social skills and emotional maturity to succeed in life. Our students will be sought after by further education colleges, universities and employers, because of the skills, knowledge and attributes they gain while in our care. We are creating bright futures and increasing social mobility for all. Greenwood became an Academy in January 2013 and is sponsored by the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET). We are at an exciting stage in our development, and our journey to be an Outstanding Academy is well underway.

We are looking for a dynamic, inspirational Leader of Maths to contribute to the development of consistently outstanding quality of teaching and learning and the raising standards and improving student achievement. You will be expected to lead on curriculum planning, delivery and assessment across all disciplines and will develop and enhance the teaching practice of others.

The Mathematics department currently consists of 8 full time teaching staff who each have access to their own teaching classroom.

As the sponsor, AET believes that all young people deserve to become world-class learners - to learn, enjoy, succeed and thrive in a first rate educational environment with the best facilities, the best teaching and the most up-to-date resources available to them. In each of the AET academies, you will benefit from visionary, inspirational and dynamic leadership and be empowered to develop your own skills with access to world-class CPD and Talent Management programmes. You will also be offered membership of a Health Cash Plan, Vehicle Affinity Scheme, Cycle2work, Childcare Vouchers and Westfield Rewards.

This position is due to commence January 2015 or earlier by negotiation. Interviews are scheduled to take place on 24 October 2014.

**Please scroll to the bottom of this page to view our live vacancies**

Greenwood Academy is a vibrant, successful 11-18 Academy situated in the heart of Castle Vale.  We moved into our £20 million new build in September 2017 with world class facilities.  Coupled with this is a highly professional staff and students who are keen to learn.  As a result of being oversubscribed, we are embarking on the next wave of recruitment for the highest calibre of staff who can help us to grow our school community.

So why work at Greenwood Academy?

1. Teaching and Learning

Quality first teaching is at the core of everything we do. To support this, our evidence-based Teaching and Learning vision incorporates Barack Rosenshine’s Principles of Direct Instruction.  Literacy is a significant part of every lesson. Standard written and Spoken English is insisted upon and modelled by all teachers to ensure our students can achieve their potential.

Most importantly, we do not grade observations at Greenwood Academy, we believe that regular, developmental feedback creates a strong, supportive and vibrant culture.

2. Expectations

We have a firm and fair approach to behaviour, systematically supported by senior staff; all pupil detentions are centralised and run by senior staff every day. Teachers are therefore able to prioritise the planning and teaching of their subject.

3. Work-life balance

We are committed to reducing teacher workload and making sure that everything we do has a positive impact on pupil learning. This means we have a slimmed-down marking policy, a centralised knowledge focused homework policy, no parents evenings and a minimal assessment, reporting and data entry cycle.

Ofsted

We are judged to be a 'Good' school and we were last inspected in October 2021. To view all our Ofsted reports please see the link here
