Holy Cross High School is a mixed, mainstream, secondary, Roman Catholic school with a sixth form in South Lanarkshire. It caters to students aged 12 to 18 and has approximately 1,100 pupils enrolled.

Holy Cross High School was originally placed on Muir Street and called St Mary’s Primary in the 1930s. It became known as its current name in the 1950s. The original building remained until 2010 and then the school relocated to New Park Street in 2007 when South Lanarkshire Council implemented a school modernisation programme.

Visions and value

The school strives to create a safe and caring learning environment that is based on Christian values, helping every pupil to discover more about the Roman Catholic religion. It works hard to promote an active partnership between the home, school and parish. It also aims to treat everyone as an equal and to provide the highest quality of education so that every student is fully equipped for their future adult life.

The curriculum prioritises maths, English, science and modern languages. It also offers art and music, business studies and computing science and home economics and technology.

Education Scotland

“Young people learn in a very safe, welcoming and caring environment. Catholic values and a commitment to improving young people’s life chances are embedded in the very positive culture of the school community. Relationships between and amongst staff and young people are consistently very positive. In almost all lessons, learning is stimulating and motivating. As a result, young people’s knowledge and skills for future learning, work and life are developing well.”
