Job overview

St Birinus School is judged to be a Good school with Leadership and Management at all levels being seen as a particular strength (OFSTED Report January 2012). We require an enthusiastic and well qualified teacher of English. The post would suit an emerging outstanding practitioner who is looking to pick up an area of responsibility within our thriving English Team. You may already have a leadership responsibility or you may be looking for your first opportunity to do this. The area of responsibility is open to negotiation.

The English Faculty is one of the strongest in the County, with just under 80% of students making expected levels of progress in the current Year 11. As a school, we are aiming for 70% 5A*-C, including English and Maths next Summer. Last Summer, the English A*-C 'headline' figure was 74%, significantly above national average figures. The school has a reputation for dynamic and innovative Teaching and Learning - and we welcome applications from candidates who will be able to contribute to this ethos. English Literature is a very popular course in the Sixth Form so there are opportunities for AS and A2 teaching.

Ofsted report

“Most pupils are confident about whether they are on track to achieve their target grade and if not what they need to do to improve… Pupils are safe and well cared for in the school. There are good procedures in place and policies are regularly reviewed; record-keeping is comprehensive and all staff training is up to date. Governors are also appropriately trained and knowledgeable about safeguarding, meeting regularly with school staff so that they have good oversight of the procedures and practices in place.”
