An introduction:
The appointed post-holder will be a member of the Foundation Programmes team delivering Functional Skills mathematics to full-time cross college students and part time adult students in the college.
The successful candidate will join a team of highly motivated and dedicated teaching professionals. The post-holder will continue to drive forward Functional Skills in mainstream subjects and maintain the College's outstanding status in teaching and learning.
In response to the government's drive to ensure all young people study and achieve mathematics to GCSE A* - C by the age of 19, this is an essential component of the 16-19 study programme from 2014. It is also vital to meet regional and local employer needs, ensuring that the students will have the necessary mathematics skills when moving into employment. It is also noted that higher education entry requirements also support this attainment.
The Priorities:
The candidate will be an enthusiastic and talented mathematics tutor, who will embrace practical, student centred techniques in ensuring all learners achieve their full potential. They will join the team in having a focus on raising aspirations and encouraging students in the realisation of their ambitions and ensuring they have the skills necessary to gain a mathematics qualification in order to progress to further education or employment.
Skills and Experience:
The successful applicant will be joining a cohesive team who work collaboratively within the Foundation Programmes Division. The need to be committed to post-16 learning, an excellent role model for students, inspirational and enterprising in their approach to learning and adaptable to the increasing changes in education are essential to this post, together with highly developed oral and written communication skills.

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms.
Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
