Located in the city of Wolverhampton, West Midlands, Moreton Community School is a small secondary school. Established as a boys’ school in 1931, the school has around 750 pupils in a co-educational setting aged 11-18, around 100 of whom reside in the school’s sixth form. The school site has seen extensive modernisation and development since its founding. Moreton also has an economically and culturally diverse catchment area, a fact reflected by the school’s student intake. Although the vast majority of teaching takes place on-site, a small number of pupils do make use of off-site provision for certain subjects and special requirements.

Values and Vision
Although Moreton Community School takes a great deal of pride in its academic standards, the school holds a strong focus on the development of students outside the classroom. This can be reflected in their emotional, cultural and social development, all of which are important for their development into well-rounded adults. The school also works hard to offer a range of extra-curricular activities to students, even including a student-produced radio station.
Ofsted
“Students join the school with basic skills in reading, writing, communication and mathematics that are below average. By the end of Year 11 in 2013, the proportion gaining five good GCSE passes, including English and mathematics, was broadly average. Current assessments show that students are on track to improve these results in 2014, and the proportion of students gaining the highest grades is set to rise, as a result of leaders’ focus on setting challenging ‘going for gold’ targets.”
