Applicants for teaching posts should be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh EH12 6UT.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

Annan Academy serves a wide geographical area in the Lower Annandale part of Annandale and Eskdale. Whilst it is a rural area most of our pupils live in the Royal Burgh of Annan (pop. 8430) and the two large villages of Gretna (pop. 3010) and Eastriggs (pop.1780).

House prices are generally lower than the in the Central Belt and there is usually a good supply of rented accommodation available in the area.

nnan Academy dates back to 1802 - the present school resulting from an amalgamation in 1921 of the then Annan Academy and Greenknowe Public School. In the 1960s, the school was expanded into the buildings we now occupy. Presently, the school is undergoing significant (phased) refurbishment part of which is the newly built Performing Arts Centre.

he Academy is a truly comprehensive school, serving the needs of all young people in the area, with provision included for the full spectrum of special needs.
The current roll at Annan Academy is c.930. There are approximately 74 teaching staff and around 30 support staff.

The management structure (2013-14) is: 1 HT, 4 DHT, 7 PT(Curriculum), 1PT(ASN) and 5 PT(Pupil Support).
