Castle Douglas High School is a six year, non denominational school in a market town in rural Galloway. We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed and highly motivated teacher to join our Science department. You will be committed to the principles behind Curriculum for Excellence, an excellent practitioner and someone with a vision to develop the curriculum to meet the needs of all pupils. This post is temporary to cover a maternity leave for up to one year.

Applicants for teaching posts should be registered with the General Teaching council for Scotland, Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh EH12 6UT.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

Castle Douglas High School is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form situated in the town of Castle Douglas within Dumfries and Galloway, in western Scotland. It is a state school. Smaller than average in size for a school of its type, the school’s latest handbook identifies a school roll of 415 secondary and sixth form students between the ages of 12-18.

The school was built in 1958 and has since gone under a number of renovations. It became part of the Scottish Government’s School of Ambition programme in 2006.
