Job overview

Required attendance: All year round

Coln House School is the only maintained residential school for children with emotional, behavioural and social difficulties in Gloucestershire. Situated in the growing market town of Fairford, 15 miles from Swindon and 10 miles from Cirencester, Coln House welcomes girls and boys from the age of 9 to 16 years.

This is a successful school that was judged good by Ofsted in January 2013. From January 1st 2015 or as soon as possible after this date, we are seeking to appoint a qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of Design and Technology to join our team in this uniquely challenging and rewarding environment to teach resistant materials to KS3 through to GCSE.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to shape the direction of the subject at the School. Suitable candidates will have imagination, creativity, flexibility and originality and will provide a caring, safe and supportive role model. You will clearly understand the rigorous requirements of the profession and will be willing to be held to account for the achievement, attainment and progression of each individual student.

Our academic expectations are high, but we are equally committed to the personal development of our students. This dedication is a pre-requisite. Due to its residential nature, Coln House demands an actively pastoral approach toward students and a full contribution to the wider curricular life of the school.

The ideal candidate will be dynamic and supportive with the ability to provide lessons that captivate and encourage students of all abilities. You will have a clear knowledge of current developments in the teaching of Design and Technology as well as the ability to successfully work in partnership with colleagues to plan and teach.

If you have the energy, empathy and passion to work as part of a team in a truly child-centred environment we would warmly welcome your application. We encourage informal visits from prospective candidates - call Mrs Sarah Provan, Assistant Head to make an appointment.

To apply, please complete the application form, which can be downloaded from our website www.colnhousschool.org and either post it for the attention of Heather Paterson , Coln House School, Horcott Road, Fairford GL7 4DB or email it to bursar@colnhouse.gloucs.sch.uk.

Unaccompanied CVs will not be accepted.

The closing date is 14/11/2014.
The date for interviews is likely to be soon after the closing date.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff, and volunteers, to share the same commitment. This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
