WELCOME TO CHIPPING NORTON SCHOOL

At Chipping Norton School we are all committed to the brightest possible futures for all our pupils. My colleagues and I have committed our professional lives to the fulfilment of each learner’s potential during their seven years at our wonderful school. I am deeply aware of and excited by the deep-rooted sense of community that exists within and around our community. This is a good and great school on a journey of its own to being one of the very best providers of education in this region and beyond. At all times, every one of us is a learner and we embrace our unknown potential and desire to be even better tomorrow than we are today. I hope you will take the time to visit our website to gain a deeper understanding of how and why this school means so much, to so many.

MR BARRY DOHERTY, HEADTEACHER

About Chipping Norton School

This popular and high achieving school is on an attractive site on high ground on the southern edge of the Cotswold town of Chipping Norton.  Founded in 1928, this mixed comprehensive school serves students from 11 to 18 across the whole ability range for a wide area of the north west corner of Oxfordshire - the towns of Chipping Norton and Charlbury and the major villages of Hook Norton, Middle Barton, Enstone and Kingham, and the smaller villages between; contract buses bring students in each day.

There are 920 students, 180 in the sixth form and a staff of 60 teachers and 59 support staff.  Student numbers in the Sixth Form have fallen but predicted to climb in future, especially with the recent Ofsted judgement as ‘outstanding’.

The school is accommodated in a range of buildings of various dates, including a joint school/community use Leisure Centre (with sports hall, swimming pool, dance studio, and squash courts), a recently built science block of ten laboratories, four new Art rooms, refurbished Design Technology rooms and an enlarged staff room and staff learning space.

The School Action Plan is tightly focused on raising standards of student achievement and behaviour, and there have been significant improvements in examination results, especially at 14 and 18.  In addition we offer a very rich extra-curricular programme and after school activities which involve hundreds of students each week.

The vision for the School underpins everything we do. Chipping Norton School:

  • Is a school at the heart of our community with the individual at its heart
  • Is a school where individuals enjoy learning in a dynamic environment of challenge and support
  • Is a school which unlocks lifelong learning potential and celebrates the such of each individual

The values underpinning this vision are evident in our daily work are:

Excellence, Respect, Tolerance, Enjoyment and Commitment.
