Job overview

Teacher of English, Kirklees

The Mirfield Free Grammar and Sixth Form is an11-18 non-selective Academy which was rated outstanding by Ofsted in 2008 and again in 2012. We are highly successful and over-subscribed with a strong culture of aspiration. Our mission statement "To enable our students and staff to achieve their best" is underpinned by an effective behaviour for learning strategy which allows teachers to focus on ensuring outstanding teaching and learning can take place in the classroom. Student achievement at GCSE has increased year on year to 82% 5A*-Cs, including English and Mathematics, in 2013.

We have recently become a Multi-Academy Trust and are in the process of sponsoring and supporting Colne Valley High School on its journey to Outstanding. We are looking for driven, dedicated staff that are passionate about students' learning who will be instrumental in helping us achieve our goals in both Academies.

We are seeking a classroom practitioner who either is, or aspires to be, outstanding, to join an already successful and innovative faculty. If you can confidently teach Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, motivate all students to achieve or exceed their target grades; if you are passionate about English and are driven to ensure students receive the best possible experience, The MFG is the place for you. In addition, there will be lots of opportunities to develop within the faculty, in a fast paced, creative environment which is committed to ensuring the highest possible learning experience for its students and staff.

Experience of teaching Sixth Form would be advantageous but not essential.

In return you will receive:

  • A comprehensive induction programme into the Academy, its ethos, culture, systems and practices, including participation in the Pacific Institute's "Investment in Excellence" programme and "True Colors©" Keys to Personal Success.
  • Ongoing opportunities for Continuous Professional Development in Teaching and Learning, eg The MFG Six Part Lesson, Ofsted training, Behaviour for Learning, and strategies such as Kagan Structures and Solo taxonomy.
  • Opportunity to develop your leadership skills using both internal and external specialists in order to prepare you for the next steps of your career.
  • Opportunities to apply for roles across both Academies.
  • Performance Management that celebrates success.

Please note that whilst we are recruiting for posts at The MFG all candidates will have the opportunity at interview to state whether they would also consider a post at Colne Valley.

Described by Ofsted as ''an outstanding school with an outstanding sixth form'', we are immensely proud of our academic achievements. This long tradition of success is underpinned by our active promotion of values such as respect, honesty and courtesy.

Location is important too, of course. You will find West Yorkshire, with its rolling hills, pretty villages and lively cities, an attractive area with a huge amount to offer.

Closing date for applications 5 May
Interviews held in week commencing 12 May
