Job overview

Teacher of English, Kent

As one of the UK's largest progressive and innovative Secondary Schools, rated "A good School in all aspects" (OFSTED October 2012), we work hard to retain and improve upon our successes. To further enhance our students' academic achievement, we're looking for a qualified Teacher of English to join our very successful and supportive department. We welcome candidates with experience as well as newly qualified teachers.

Our English department is actively engaged in an integrated programme of reading, writing, speaking and listening, drama and media activities. Assessment for learning, active learning and positive reinforcement are cornerstones of the department's philosophy.

At Key Stage 3, all students follow a core of schemes of work that are cross-curricular in a highly creative learning environment. At Key Stage 3, students are taught in ability groupings, whilst at Key Stage 4, they are generally taught in mixed-ability groups, although there is a single fast-moving class in each of the timetabling bands. Students requiring additional support are offered the Literacy Progress Units and literacy mentoring.

At GCSE, all students are entered for both AQA English Language and English Literature syllabus, with just a few studying the GCSE English only course. Results are consistently impressive with value added at every key stage.

At A Level, English Literature and English Language and Literature are consistently amongst the most popular subject choices of sixth form students. The AQA Specification B for Literature or AQA Specification B for Language and Literature are our preferred courses.

Homewood School has a growing national reputation for our engagement in curriculum development, personalisation and welfare management. Consequently, there are a significant number of opportunities for career development. You will join a unique working environment and enjoy discounts and offers with Kent Rewards, and ongoing training and support to help you excel and develop your career as a teacher. There is also an independent nursery based on the school site and all staff and given an iPad.

For an application pack, please visit www.homewood-school.co.uk.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all members of the community. Homewood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all employees to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be asked to apply for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure.
