We currently have a vacancy for a Teacher of English. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is passionate about teaching students across the age and ability range. Our ideal candidate will be a practitioner who has a track record of obtaining high levels of attainment for all students through consistently outstanding teaching and learning. Theability to inspire and motivate students is essential.

The successful applicant will be well qualified, enthusiastic and experienced in language and literature at all levels. Team work is essential and a desire to contribute to the ongoing development of the department would be welcome. The successful applicant will teach across the age and ability range, including IGCSE Language and Literature and IB English A (first language).

English Department

St George's is looking to recruit a Teacher of English starting in September 2014.

English is a crucial department in a school like St. George's where about 25% of the pupils have English as their only mother tongue, about 40% are more or less bilingual and for about 35% it is a second (or third or fourth) language in which they have very varying degrees of fluency.

There are at present 5 full-time members of staff in the department, with one responsible for teaching English as an Additional Language.

By next year, all English teaching groups will be mixed ability. This means that we work hard on differentiation and run additional sessions for students who benefit from intervention. Classes tend to be small and rarely exceed 20 in a group.

Our own syllabus, based broadly on the English National Curriculum and NCTE guidelines is followed at KS3 and IGCSEs in literature (Edexcel) and language (Cambridge) are taken in Year 11. In the Sixth Form, all students (with very few exceptions) study IB English, the majority taking English Language A, Literature or Language and Literature options. A minority (nearly all of whom do Italian A1 as their first language) take English as a 'B' or 'foreign' language option.

Applicants should be qualified, enthusiastic and experienced in language and literature at all levels. Team work is essential and a desire to contribute to the ongoing development of the department would be welcome. The successful applicant will teach across the age and ability range, including IGCSE and IB (First Language) English.
