Job overview

Full Time (Part Time considered)

Forest House Education Centre is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational English teacher.

The Centre is a hospital school attached to a 16-bed inpatient unit for young people up to the age of 18 who have mental health issues. The successful candidate will take sole responsibility for English within the Centre, teaching English language and literature to GCSE level and supporting post-16 students in their English studies. We would be happy to hear from experienced and newly qualified teachers; the most important qualities we seek are your enthusiasm for English and your interest in working in the adolescent mental health sector.

Teaching in Forest House Education Centre is sometimes challenging, but always rewarding, and would offer the right candidate significant opportunities to demonstrate their curriculum development skills and creativity, both in and out of the classroom. Candidates able to offer either subject leadership or support in one of our 'enrichment' areas (drama, art, music, general studies, PSHE, humanities, PE) would quickly find opportunities to do so. We are a small, friendly and committed team, and look forward to welcoming the energy, enthusiasm and fresh ideas that an inspiring new English teacher will bring to our Centre and students.

FHEC is a satellite centre of St Luke's, Redbourn which is a school for 143 pupils aged 9-16 with learning difficulties, including pupils with complex moderate learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorders and speech, language and communication needs.  You may be expected to work across both sites.

St Luke's and FHEC are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring Service check is essential for this post.
