Job overview

Teacher of English Responsible for KS4, Cumbria

Walney School is an exciting place to work. The School was placed in special measures in December 2013 and following the appointment of a new Headteacher improvement is rapid. A recent HMI visit has confirmed this and recognised that we now work in a culture of high aspirations and expectations leading to improved student outcomes. If you feel that you fit into this picture of student progress and want to be a part of a team with numerous opportunities for career development we would love to hear from you.

Walney School is an 11-16 Community School of 670 pupils and approximately 100 staff that has recently benefited from a £7m building enlargement programme offering state of the art facilities. We are situated on the fringe of the Lake District National Park. We are the island where the lakes meet the sea.

The Governors of Walney School are seeking to appoint with effect from 1st September 2014 or sooner if possible a professional who is well qualified, enthusiastic and an innovative teacher of English who can lead and develop KS4. We welcome applications from experienced team players who are keen to work collaboratively and contribute to a strong ethos of sharing good practice, resources and ideas.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference where it really matters. The successful candidate will be committed to raising students' achievement as a member of the English Department and to play a key role in the development of the school as we continue to successfully raise standards. The role is aimed at somebody who wants to develop as a middle leader.

Closing Date: 22nd April 2014 (noon)
Interviews will be held: w/c 28th April 2014
