Job overview

Firth Park Academy is a larger-than-average-sized secondary school located in the north east of Sheffield. The school is a specialist college for the arts and has gained national recognition through a range of awards including Investors in People. We were recognised as a National College Development School in 2009. We are proud of our richly diverse school population and their ambitions and aspirations to succeed: staff, students and parents all work in partnership to achieve the very best outcomes. We are entering an exciting, positive time of change for the school as we have just moved to academy status with AET Academy Trust.

We are looking to appoint an experienced, qualified teacher of English to join us from January on a maternity cover contract.

We all have differing interests and expertise, which ensures that we offer our students an engaging and exciting curriculum. We are an innovative and energetic team who strive to add value and improve attainment and above all pass on our love of English to our students.

Our school has already made significant progress which can be seen from our increase in results from 26% 5+ A* to C in 2011 to 46% in 2014. We are on a journey to becoming a good and then outstanding school and invite you to join us to achieve our vision.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Enthusiastic, energetic and have a love of your subject.
  • Able to help drive up standards in learning and teaching
  • A team person who will take initiative and get involved in school projects
  • Resilient and determined to succeed.
  • An excellent, experienced classroom practitioner.

We will offer you:

  • An outstanding induction, ongoing support and professional development
  • A friendly, supportive and dynamic school team.
  • Innovative and creative/risk taking approaches to learning and teaching

We are keen to support your career not only with our school but also across our group of academies. At AET, you will be supported to develop your own skills and have access to a world-class CPD and Talent Management programme. We have a wide range of benefits that include teachers pension, private health cash plan, the Ford Advantage Scheme and childcare vouchers.
