Rose Bridge High School is a 11-16 mixed secondary school serving Ince and the wider community. We are located close to Wigan town centre with good transport links to the M6 and M61 motorways and Wigan’s two rail stations. We are within an hour’s commute from both Liverpool and Manchester city centres. We have approximately 620 students on roll.

At Rose Bridge High School we are ‘Dedicated to Achievement for All’ by:

  • Developing well rounded individuals, that demonstrate greater resilience, determination and strength of character to succeed
  • Equipping students with the skills to access increased opportunities and enhance their life chances
  • Insisting on high expectations and challenge
  • Developing an aspirational school community
  • Engaging all parents and carers

We have a culture in school that promotes student progress and an ethos that focuses on our values of Respect, Believe, Achieve.

All students, regardless of their ability, deserve to be offered the opportunity to achieve their full potential and to this end we offer a curriculum that meets the needs of all. We are a fully inclusive school, and are seen as a model of good practice for inclusion through the recognition we receive for our work with students with SEN within our Small Learning Community.
All departments are well resourced and fully equipped with leading edge technology to provide staff with the tools to enhance teaching and learning and to ensure that the students’ experiences at school are varied, exciting and challenging.

Primary transition to secondary school is second to none at Rose Bridge High School. We ensure the smoothest of starts with meticulous attention to detail and close communication with local primary schools, students and parents. Each year we organise a summer school for our new starters, as well as offering several opportunities for primary pupils to visit and experience life at Rose Bridge High School. Learning Mentors and Heads of Year continue this high level of support once students commence their time here, ensuring that they are settled, happy and confident.

We believe the secret of our success is that we are large enough to offer a rich and diverse curriculum, yet small enough so that every student is well known and cared for as an individual.

From March 2015 we are converting to an Academy joining with a neighbouring primary school under the Community First Academy Trust. This is an exciting time for our school and offers us the opportunity to plan a 0-16 curriculum which will in turn develop further opportunities for our staff.

We are at the cutting edge of Teacher Training. We are the lead school for Kingsbridge@rosebridge - School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT). This is a collaboration of 17 local primary and secondary schools. Our Headteacher is Chair of Board of Directors, and our Assistant Headteacher is employed as a consultant/ professional mentor. A large number of staff deliver training sessions to the trainee teachers. This provision has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted. We are also a strategic partner in the Westbridge Teaching School Alliance

We are really proud of our last Ofsted Report. Ofsted said that “Rose Bridge is a good school that has several outstanding features to it's work. The outstanding care, guidance and support provided for students, along with highly effective partnerships, make an excellent contribution to students’ learning and wellbeing. Students feel very safe and valued as individuals. They are proud of their school, get along well together and demonstrate good attitudes to learning. Excellent relationships are evident throughout the school and ‘the staff are great’ was a common remark made by students who spoke to inspectors. The view is, evidently, reciprocated, as most teachers enjoy their work and praise the ‘great students’ highly. Parents and carers agree that their children are happy at Rose Bridge, with typical views being that ‘I couldn’t ask any more of the school’ and ‘it seems to be going from strength to strength’”.

We expect the highest standards of performance, behaviour and effort and students are expected to wear full school uniform at all times. We know that our students are well cared for in school. I am sure that you will get a feel for that when you visit or when you talk to our students who are very proud of their school.

Should you have any queries or if you would like to see the school in action, please contact the school.
