Aberdeenshire Council has secured funding from the Scottish Government to appoint a teacher of Gaelic as an Additional Language to help introduce Gaelic to Aberdeenshire schools. This role will also involve supporting the Gaelic Development Officer in developing a Gaelic Plan for EL&L.

This post requires the postholder to have the abilty to travel around Aberdeenshire. This post will have a base location of Hill of Banchory School but you will be required to work within various locations within Aberdeenshire.  

Applications are invited from teachers with a GTCS primary qualification and who are able to deliver the curriculum in Gaelic. Aberdeenshire Council is committed to supporting teachers' Continuous Professional Development at all stages of their careers including excellent support for newly qualified teachers and an extensive CPD programme which recognises the potential of all our staff.

Salary for this post will be in accordance with SNCT agreements. Applicants must be or eligible to be fully GTC Scotland registered. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An offer of employment by Aberdeenshire Council will be subject to the outcome of this check being satisfactory.  The preferred candidate will also be required to provide an Overseas Criminal Records Check from other countries as deemed necessary. An offer of employment by Aberdeenshire will be subject to the outcome of this check being satisfactory

Experience/Qualifications/Personal Qualities

Essential Criteria

  • Good knowledge of current planning and assessment procedures
  • Experience of teaching Gaelic
  • Good understanding of national and local curriculum policies
  • Registered or eligible to be registered with GTC Scotland
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Able to create a motivating, learning environment and programmes of work, which take account of individual pupil, needs
  • Good communicator, orally and written
  • Genuine interest in children and their families
  • Commitment to working in partnership with parents
  • Commitment to collegiate working
  • Adaptable and willing to try new ways of working
  • Considerate, helpful and approachable
  • Abilty to travel around Aberdeenshire

Desirable Criteria

  • Willing to undertake further professional development and training
  • Competent in the use of ICT, including application to learning and teaching
  • Interested in whole school developments and the wider life of the school
