Ecclesfield School is a larger than average secondary school based in the north of Sheffield close to motorway links and networks. The school has been given a good judgement by Ofsted (October 2013) and is building further on this status. There is confidence and optimism in the school and a rapid pace of improvement.

The governors wish to appoint a Teacher of Geography to start in January 2015, with the position being offered either as a permanent contract or as a two-term fixed contract. We see this appointment as a wonderful opportunity to join a committed team of colleagues.

Ecclesfield School has an innovative and creative Geography Department. The team delivers Geography to all years and is very popular with students at both Key Stages. The Department has four full time members of staff, each having their own room. Fieldwork is carried out in all years, including trips to Flamborough, the Peaks, Sheffield and York. The department also organises residential trips across the globe. This year sees students travel to Borneo for three weeks to work on projects in the forests, setting up a school and helping with endangered species.

We invite applications from innovative, committed and passionate teachers of Geography who are seeking to work in a forward thinking school with the prospect of developing further through an excellent professional learning programme.

Ecclesfield offers the successful candidate a whole-hearted commitment to professional learning that places individual development at the heart of its ethos. The wellbeing of our staff is very important to us. We have an employer healthcare plan through Westfield Health to support the healthcare needs of our staff.

We welcome visits from potential candidates.

Located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Ecclesfield School is a larger-than-average secondary school, educating around 1,700 pupils aged 11-16 in a co-educational setting. Originally founded as a grammar school in 1931, the school converted to academy status in 2014.

Ecclesfield School has seen extensive redevelopment and modernisation over the years, with a series of new buildings completed in the early 2000s. The school currently hosts a specialist unit for hearing-impaired children in the local area.

Values and vision

Ecclesfield School is committed to providing an education that works for all students, regardless of academic ability or background. The secondary school seeks to achieve this by providing a deep and engaging curriculum, in which teachers maintain a close relationship with pupils and their families.

Ecclesfield has high expectations of its students. It strives to ensure that older students have a proper understanding of their options, in terms of work or further study, upon leaving school.

Ofsted report

“The proportion of students achieving five GCSE passes at grades A* to C, including English and mathematics, has risen strongly over recent years, as a result of senior leaders’ relentless focus on raising attainment. In 2013, an above average proportion of students achieved the English Baccalaureate. Students’ achievement on a range of BTEC courses is also good.”
