Milford Haven School is an 11-18 mixed comprehensive school of 1184 pupils including a Sixth Form of 198.

The catchment area consists of the town of Milford Haven and adjacent rural areas within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.  The school is the sole secondary school serving the town and seeks to take full advantage of this situation in the development of strong links with the local community and with local business.

The school opened in September 1988 upon comprehensive reorganisation in Milford Haven.  It occupies the pleasant site of the former grammar school whose buildings were adapted and extended for the new school.  The original premises housed Mathematics, Science, English, Welsh, Modern Languages, Library, Assembly Hall, Canteen, Gymnasium, Staff room and Offices.  Four new blocks were connected to the original building by link corridors for Technology, Humanities, P.E. and Welsh.

Extensive on-site playing fields include a flood-lit all-weather pitch and tennis courts.  Together with the Sports Hall and Gymnasium we are well provided for in terms of sports facilities.

The school has four fully equipped dedicated I.T. rooms, together with one each for Science, Mathematics, English and Careers/Vocational.  Every department is equipped for ICT, with a networked PC in every classroom. There are 50 interactive whiteboards distributed throughout the school.  Additional facilities are available for sixth form study, including a refurbished library with fifteen computers.  Every teacher has been issued with a laptop.  Our assembly hall is equipped with a high quality sound system which enables us to stage our concerts, school productions, presentation and information evenings.  The Special Needs Unit has been
re-modelled to include a small unit provision.

Maintaining a comfortable and conducive working environment for both staff and pupils is very important.  The school has a Bursar, Site Manager, a Librarian, a Network Manager and a team of Technicians and Clerical Assistants who provide us with the back-up support to do our work effectively.

We currently have 70 teaching staff (67.75 FTE) and twenty-three Learning Support Assistants, which will reduce in line with falling rolls in September.  The School Leadership Team will comprise the Head, two Deputies, two Assistant Heads and the Bursar.  They are supported by a strong pastoral team of 6 Heads of Year and 6 Assistant Heads of Year, and a curriculum team consisting of Heads of Department in all the main subject areas.  The school achieved the Investors in People Award in the year of the millennium and a recent review has confirmed that we are still achieving the standards.

The year 2007 saw our highest ever GCSE results with 60% gaining 5A*-C and 94% 5A*-G (89% in 2006).  2006 saw our best SATs results with 59% gaining Level 5+ in all three subjects.  2006 was also our best ‘A’ Level year, with a 99% pass rate, an average points score of 20, and 64% gaining 2 or more A-C grades.

The school underwent a standard inspection under the New Inspection Framework in April 2005, and received 4 Grade Ones and 3 Grade Twos.
