 Tarbert Academy is a co-educational, non-denominational 3-18 school in Tarbert Loch Fyne, on the western Scottish isle of Bute. The school’s mission is stated as valuing ‘Respect , Achievement, Responsibility, Creativity’. The village of Tarbert has a population of 1,400, and its three castles are reflected in the crest of Tarbert Academy. Extra-curricular activities at the academy include gardening, cycling and choir at primary level, and chess, archery, and drama at secondary level.

The school is committed to providing opportunities for the development of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural values through both the ethos and the curriculum. This is undertaken in partnership with parents and takes account of the individual needs of pupils and the views of parents. The school welcomes and encourages diversity and individuality, while emphasising a common commitment to moral values such as honesty, respect for others, compassion and justice.

Tarbert Academy’s positive, nurturing community aims to give every primary stage child a positive induction to learning. Activities and experiences are designed with the individual in mind so that they will move through the system and become successful, self-assured, effective and confident in whatever they choose to do in life.

This has resulted in raised standards, improved learning and teaching methodologies, and increased attainment and achievement.”
