Job overview

Our Maths Faculty is expanding!  Are you an outstanding Teacher?  Do you want to be part of a rapidly improving Maths Faculty, that's integral to the success of Aylward's drive to go from an Ofsted GOOD to OUTSTANDING? If so we would like to receive an application from you.

The Mathematics Faculty provides a stable learning environment for students at the school.  The Faculty is well-resourced; each classroom is equipped with an Interactive Whiteboard and there is a separate Maths ICT room within the Faculty, providing networked computers for whole-class use.

Aylward Academy is part of the London Academies Enterprise Trust (LAET) sponsored by the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET).  Our objective is to provide all students with a first class education. Why? Because we believe that a solid education is vital in today's world. We recognise that every student has different needs and that it's our job to meet them. We not only educate students about life, we prepare them for life. Whatever a student's ambition, we will give them the best possible start.

We are looking to appoint an outstanding, enthusiastic and ambitious Teacher of Maths with QTS to teach at KS3 and KS4 and across all ability ranges.  You will demonstrate high standards of delivery in a consistent manner and be committed to improving achievement across all key stages.

As the sponsor, AET believes that all young people deserve to become world-class learners - to learn, enjoy, succeed and thrive in a first rate educational environment with the best facilities, the best teaching and the most up-to-date resources available to them.  In each of the AET academies, you will benefit from visionary, inspirational and dynamic leadership and be empowered to develop your own skills with access to world-class CPD and Talent Management programmes.  You will also be offered membership of a Health Cash Plan, Vehicle Affinity Scheme, Cycle2work, Childcare Vouchers and Westfield Rewards.

The successful candidate will be required to commence employment January 2015 and interviews will take place week commencing 13 October 2014.

Closing date:  10 October 2014.

Please note that we reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive an overwhelming response.  All candidates are advised to refer to the job description and person specification before making an application.

About Aylward Academy

Based in Edmonton, North London, Aylward Academy was established in September 2010 and is an 11-19 learning community with over 1,000 students on roll, including a thriving sixth form. The academy is currently rated as GOOD by its last Ofsted inspection in July 2021. Our unwavering standards have seen the academy become the school of choice for both the local and surrounding areas and for the fourth year in a row the academy has been oversubscribed.

At Aylward Academy we are dedicated to maximising the potential of learners; staff and students alike work hard to uphold our core values of: Respect, Professionalism, Independence, Collaboration, Resilience and Creativity.

We believe in developing the individual as a ‘whole’ and strive to ensure our vision is understood by all: ‘Working together to be the best that we can be.’  It is this vision that underpins everything we do - at Aylward Academy ‘everything matters’.

As part of our commitment to life-long learning, we place high value on CPD opportunities at all levels. Ofsted noted that teachers were complimentary about the support they receive to cultivate their skills and feel well supported. Staff are experienced, knowledgeable and innovative. As a result, we encourage a ’can do’ attitude which we instil through a culture of ‘no excuses’. Our learning journey is both rich and purposeful, one of the reasons for our rapidly expanding, highly resourced sixth form.

Curriculum

Most pupils arrive in Year 7 with attainment that is significantly below that expected for their age and with extremely low literacy levels. The extensive and effective literacy programme in Years 7 and 8 ensures that pupils are taught appropriate skills to be able to access the wider curriculum which meets the needs of the diverse pupil population. Pupils are offered different curriculum pathways to meet their individual academic needs, particularly at key stage 4. A range of BTEC national diploma, GCSE and entry-level qualifications ensures that pupils have access to appropriate courses.

At key stage 4 all students study a core curriculum of English, Maths and Science and have the opportunity to choose from a huge range of 25 GCSE and BTEC courses, including a range of Languages (French, Spanish and Arabic) and a new Computer Science qualification. In addition, the Academy offers students the opportunity to take a wide range of community languages, which reflect our diverse student population.

Sixth Form Provision

At KS5, the Academy offers two curriculum pathways, which students are allocated depending on their KS4 qualifications.  At level three, students are offered a range of 30+ A level and BTEC courses. Students are given the opportunity to study AS, A2, BTEC only or a mixture of BTEC and AS and A2 courses. This is dependent on their prior attainment and choices. Our level two hub offers students the opportunity to choose from seven level 2 BTEC courses, ranging from Catering to PE and Arts Award. Alongside this, students would continue to study English and Maths as well as being offered the opportunity for a work placement linked to their BTEC course of choice. Much emphasis is given to providing work and volunteering experiences for students. Success rates for university applications are high.

Extra-Curricular

At Aylward Academy we firmly believe that a rich provision of extra-curricular opportunity benefits our students enormously and allows every child to contribute in their own way. This is why we create opportunities outside of lesson time to allow our students to thrive in the fields of sport, music, art and drama.
