Job overview

Teacher of MFL, Leeds

Hours per Week: 0.4 FTE

City of Leeds School is a vibrant, unique and caring small secondary school community situated in the university ward of Leeds. We will not compromise on our commitment for our students to access their full potential and seek to recruit individuals who will support and enhance this pledge.

If you agree that:

  • The most vulnerable young people need the best teachers and support staff
  • Cultural, linguistic and ethnic diversity creates exciting learning environments
  • It takes continuous commitment to succeed in challenging schools
  • The rewards are tremendous
  • You can act as a positive role model for our students

Then we want to meet you.

We are experiencing a period of rapid change and from Easter 2014 will be the first secondary school in the country to place teaching English as a Foreign Language on our daily curriculum. With 50+ languages spoken, a significant number of the student population within 5 years of entering the UK and a high percentage of ethnic minorities attending our school, it is our obsession to support all our learners to become confident, productive members of society by equipping them with the gift of communication.

We are seeking an outstanding, creative practitioner of French (with the ability to offer one or more other languages an advantage) to support and continue our rapid drive for improvement. We wish to appoint an outstanding, experienced, enthusiastic and passionate teacher or an NQT who shows the potential to be outstanding. The appointment will be for two days a week initially for one academic year; further details available at interview. We anticipate finding a very particular teacher who would relish the opportunity to become involved at our unique school; it really is quite different to the majority of schools in the UK.

Ideal candidates will:

  • be enthusiastic, inspirational and well-qualified
  • consistently demonstrate high standards of delivery
  • be committed to raising attainment across all key stages
  • be prepared to show initiative and work collaboratively to share good practice
  • keep up to date with curriculum developments
  • have an absolute commitment to multicultural education

Values and vision

The Academy has established a unique, positive, and transformative ‘In Partnership’ culture which truly sets the school apart from others. This culture is founded and bult upon six key values that each drive and permeate everything the Academy does: behaviour, relationships and strategic decision making. The Academy In Partnership values are affectionally referred to as the DNA of Leeds City Academy and this is something the wonderful students, staff, parents and community are immensely proud of. The Academy strongly believe that their vision and strong culture will help not only to transform the lives of young people but transform the local communities which they so passionately serve.

The Academy has enjoyed an impressive period of transformation across the last 4 years and was judged as ‘Good’ overall by OFSTED in April 2019, securing an Outstanding judgement for the quality of Leadership and Management. The report commented that ‘Exceptional leadership from the highly skilled senior leadership team has improved all aspects of the school since the last inspection. The school’s culture is now inclusive and aspirational. Pupils develop the resilience needed to rise to the challenges set by staff. The school has been transformed and its overall effectiveness improved.’

We continue this journey of transformation and are determined to provide an exceptional quality of education and culture for all students at Leeds City Academy, with the ambition that all students excel both academically and as aspirational and inspirational young people. There is no better time to join Leeds City Academy, as a colleague, a leader or as a student.
