Job overview

Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish and French), Staffordshire

"Love of God Love of people Love of learning Love of life"

Our mission statement clearly states our principles. We know that a school that lives these principles is one where children thrive, parents have confidence and staff are nurtured and developed; all experience the "fullness of life" in their time at our school.

Blessed William Howard is a Catholic high school with 803 students on roll (162 in the Sixth Form), serving a wide area and diverse school population in terms of social background. Performance in 5 GCSE A*-C (including English and mathematics): 2013 - 60%, 2012 - 75% and 2011 - 61%. 5 GCSE A*-C: 2013 - 80%, 2012 - 84% and 2011 - 71%.

In 2012 the school was judged as GOOD by Ofsted.

Modern foreign language and humanities curriculum areas work together as a team in world studies. This adventurous, though not unique, approach offers the successful candidates a wider network of support than in a similar sized school. Languages are taught as distinct subjects in our school. The success of languages teaching is pivotal in the life opportunities open to our young people. The successful candidate will have a passion for ensuring young people reach their potential, yet believes they can exceed these expectations; providing encouragement and guidance to achieve this.

The Governors are, therefore, seeking to appoint, for September 2014, an enthusiastic, motivated and qualified teacher of Modern Foreign Languages to join the ambitious team of professionals in our school. Applications from newly qualified teachers or candidates that are more experienced are welcome.

The main languages taught at the school are French and Spanish. All appointments made will be on the quality of teaching displayed as well as specific languages offered.

The school operates as part of the Stafford Collegiate - joint provision of KS5 courses across the town. A-level Spanish is currently delivered by our school. There would be a requirement of the successful candidate to teach Spanish at A-level.

The appointment comes at an exciting point in the provision of language learning in our school. The broader collaboration with humanities, and the desire of the governors to see our young people equipped with the skills to make them well-prepared for the world they face, makes the position of languages in our school high status. Colleagues wishing to join our school will see this in the support they are offered in their development as teachers - both newly qualified and experienced.

Successful candidates will be excellent classroom practitioners with the ability to inspire enthusiasm in students for the power and excitement of learning; have high expectations in terms of standards; contribute effectively to the future of languages and literacy in the school and teach across the age range 11-18.

All teaching staff are form tutors and this allows them to fully contribute to the Catholic life of the school in their work. Whilst applications from practising Catholics are highly desired we are open to applications from candidates who share our values and Christian principles - Blessed William Howard is a Catholic school embracing children of all faiths; not a school exclusively for children who are Catholic by faith.

You must submit a Catholic Education Service application form for this post.  If you would like to apply, please contact Mrs S Marshall, Headteacher's PA at the email address below or by telephone, for an application pack and application form, or simply download the details from the school's website.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and anyone applying to work in our school is expected to share this commitment.

This position is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.  Further details regarding this check are available from schools or by visiting www.crb.gov.uk

About Blessed William Howard Catholic School

Our school is a successful 11-18 Catholic High School with 839 on roll (110 in the Sixth Form).  Blessed William Howard Catholic High School has been providing secondary education in the heart of Stafford for over 50 years.

We serve the Catholic community in a wide geographical area in the Archdiocese of Birmingham, stretching up to the village of Brewood on the edge of Wolverhampton, 13 miles to the south and up to the town of Stone, 8 miles to the north. Our admissions policy enables parents who want a faith education for their child to join our community.

Through the teachings of the Catholic Church and our vibrant liturgical life we open paths of discovery, helping children to understand themselves, others and how they may live fulfilled lives, making a positive difference through who and how they are.  Our school offers a haven where all are welcome to flourish as individuals academically, socially, morally and spiritually.

The school became part of Holy Trinity Catholic Multi Academy Company in March 2016.
